Hello.
It's that time again.

>what is noiserock?
Agressive music with allot of experimentation.

>where do I start?
I got buttfucked last time for my list so here's a new one:
Big Black - Atomizer
Sonic Youth - Confusion is Sex
The Jesus Lizard - liar
Rapeman - Two Nuns and a Packmule

>now what?
Frequent /noiserock/ until death.

Well metal was largely informed by Hard Rock which was all over the 60's, I don't know if you could say noise rock was codified till the late 70's early 80's, while Heavy Metal set many of their prevailing trends with pioneers like Black Sabbath.
Extremeshit (which is pretty much all /metal/ talks about) was codified around the same time as noise rock though, I'd say.
I don't think that Johnny Watson song I linked further up in the thread can be indicative of psychedelic rock or any future genre, it's just an outlier.
The point I'm trying to make is mainly that recurring threads shoudln't be constant or else they turn into a shitfest.
I also general should also accept harsh noise posters so they don't have to use their own rarely posted general to talk about the latest Vomitshit HNW cassette.
We should also make an essential noisecore chart besides 'straight' noise rock.
Maybe blackened noise/war metal too.

Do you guys know what "essential" means? A lot of these are not essential at all. This kind of charts were the maker just adds whatever people throw his way without any disclosed criteria always ends up being a useless mess. Might as well remove that essential label from your chart, and that would only make it slightly less useless, since you just look up RYM and listen to the top 50 albums under this category.

Noise Rock is not even that big for a sub-genre, 10-15 different albums by different bands with their unique sound/approaches/backgrounds is all you need for an intro to the genre. Otherwise you're adding bloat.

Ironically, pic related might not be perfect but it's how any essential chart should look like in my opinion.

Noise rock (the thing this thread is about) wouldn't exist without noise musicians like Luigi Russolo.
"noise isn't music" is a philistine perspective.
Another question is where you specifically draw the line between the two. A group like the Gerogerigegege or even Boris at times blurs that line.

Noise rock was spawned out of 60s art rock/proto-punk and 70s/80s punk/post-punk/post-hardcore. It's got nothing to do with Futurism or any of that shit. The Gerogerigegege owes more to the fucking Ramones than he does to Luigi Russolo.
