*BEEP* *BEEP* best The Cure album coming through, out of the way
>>
Nah but it has some great tunes - Want, This Is A Lie, Mint Car, Gone!, Numb. It'd benefit quite a lot from cutting Club America and Bare though, easily 2 of the most pointless songs to grace their albums.

>>73896756

Underrated as fuck, easily a top 3 effort from them.

>>73897192

Also a great record. Out Of This World and Where The Birds Always Sing are some of the best Cure songs that no one talks about.

>>73897236

Top's not one of their best but it makes the transition from Pornography to Head on the Door actually make sense so its existence is justified, even if it's weird as all fuck.

>>73897245

Speaking of which, this one's probably my personal least favorite album from them. Critical turning point for sure but I probably listen to it the least of any of their records, I think even 4:13 Dream and The Top get more attention from me. Never really felt this one too hard but hey, at least I have the CD which is more than I can say for those other two.
>>
>>73896709
absolutely fucking not lol
>>
>>73896709
nice try, even thought I hate to admit it, disintegration really is their best album
>>

best posts

The Head on the Door is underrated among fans. Not goth enough for them I guess.
>>
Mint Car is a solid feel good tune.
>>
POWER RANKINGS COMING THROUGH
Disintegration > Faith > WIsh > Pornography > Bloodflowers > The Head on the Door > Seventeen Seconds > Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me > 4:13 Dream > Wild Mood Swings > Three Imaginary Boys > The Cure > The Top
>>
>>73896766

fake news

Jupiter Crash is also top-tier
>>
Wish is so fucking underrated desu senpai
>>
>>73899256
1. The Head on the Door
2. Disintegration
3. Boys Don't Cry
4. Faith
5. Wish
6. Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me
7. Seventeen Seconds
8. The Top
9. Bloodflowers
10. The Cure
11. Pornography
12. Wild Mood Swings
13. 4:13 Dream (and they knew it sucked too or they would have kept making music)

I can accept most of your rankings but I feel like the only people who hate The Top that much didn't really listen to it. But then you have TIB so low which is such an odd opinion that I imagine you probably have heard all these?
>>
>>73899564

>Pornography at 11/13

bait?
>>
>everyone saying head on the door because ant man showed normies disintegration

you know it's true
>>
>>73899632

wasn't Ant Man the one that normies skipped
>>
bait thread but strange attraction into mint car is a great coupling and probably better than doing the unstuck into friday i'm in love

also the head on the door is one of their weakest releases and the top is better
>>
>>73899618
No. I don't consider any of them aside from Wild Mood Swings/4:13 Dream to be truly bad, but I think Pornography has real problems, it's just so murky. I wrote about it here if you want to read a more nuanced opinion: https://oldnoise.wordpress.com/2016/12/24/pornography/

>>73899632
Don't know who that is, but Head on the Door being the best or near the best isn't a terribly new opinion. I've been hearing that for about 15 years and I'm sure it wasn't totally out of nowhere before that. It's more varied and tight than their other albums, Disintegration is the only one that I can say rivals it at all.
>>
>>73899664

>calls thread bait
>says Head is one of their weakest releases
>>
>>73899699
i genuinely think it is

inbetween days and close to me are great singles, really catchy and great and i love them. push is really great and kyoto song has a great vibe but as an album it never really clicked for me. the blood and the baby screams are really bad, six different ways is great but a rehash of the top and sinking isnt as good a closer as the top.

the top fits together a lot better and caterpillar is a stronger single than anything on the head on the door, tee bee aych
>>
>>73899799
The Blood makes that album. Probably the most misunderstood song they ever did.

It was only through that kind of experimenting with other styles that the Cure finally was able to grow. It's also the best song there lyrically, and it's metered really nicely.
>>
>>73899875
its literally a song from the same headspace as the top but with gimmicky spanish guitar shit lmao

the top is way more experimental for them than head on the door when you contrast it with what came before it

the lyrics are strong tho ill give you that
>>
>>73899928
You can't just harp on the Top thing though. Like, how about good for the Head on the Door for improving on it? The Top had few songs as concise as Head's, and the chord progressions aren't as languid and flat.
>>
Start to finish Seventeen Seconds is my favorite, even if I know it's technically not the best

I think it's one of the most economically perfect albums ever
>>
>>73899983
it didnt improve on it tho, you could skip from the top to kiss me kiss me kiss me and not miss anything as far as the group's development goes, aside from maybe a development of robert's pop songwriting skills
>>
>>73900032
That's by far the most important aspect of Head on the Door-onward Cure, though.
>>
>>73900111
well first off i'd say it isn't mostly and honestly depends on the album. id also argue, if anything that the head on the door era singles are the end of an era for cure singles, the singles from then after being much more airy, synthy and textural. for their 87-92 period anyway

the way the singles collections were released kinda supports this because staring at the sea covers their singles from imaginary boys era to head on the door era and galore from then onwards
>>
>>73900242
It's true, the synths aren't really predominant in Head on the Door, although it kind of feels like they are if you don't think about it too hard. But I'd say Disintegration is the only one up through Wild Mood Swings that isn't single-oriented, although all Disintegration's songs charted the best, so I guess that statement doesn't make much sense.
>>
>>73900367
you're right about disintegration not being single oriented and wish definitely is single oriented but i don't think kiss me kiss me kiss me is desu

there's too much oddity and egypty shit seperating the singles (which aren't the best songs on it) for it to be a poppy album in the same way wish is. if anything i'd say it's probably their weirdest album
>>
>>73900432
I've always wondered if all that extra stuff made it onto Kiss Me just because the cassette format was becoming viable and they wanted to take advantage of space options. Because some of those songs like Like Cockatoos really don't deserve to be on there; they sound identical to the rest of the Cure's b-side material (though with that said they have better b-sides than most bands).
>>
>>73900492
honestly im glad they are, regardless. the weirder stuff that probably shouldn't have been on there makes it as an album
