What does /mu/ think about ska as a genre overall?

It is the red-headed stepchild of music genres. Everyone knows what it's called, but nothing about how it sounds, it's best artists, or really anything.

That's ska punk. How many actually know the skatalites or that the wailers started out playing ska? It stayed true to its roots elsewhere but in the U.S. .
I personally love ska. I grew up on two tone ska, so it's nostalgic. I'm not big on skacore though. Other than some crustie stuff.

This
English Beat is goat, especially if you like new wave too

Ska-core is great, have to be in a specific mood for two-tone though. Destroy To Create is one of my favourite albums of all time.

Some ska is great but most bands go overboard with the horn section. The Specials are GOAT, Op Ivy and Catch 22 are nice as well. I listened to a lot of third-wave during high school so it's pretty nostalgic for me and I don't mind the cheesy overblown horns.
Ska is gay, Reggae is gay
You're fucking gay and you're not punk
You say you hate corporations, but you were on NBC
London’s calling and they're calling you gay
[Chorus:]
Rancid sucks, Rancid sucks, Rancid sucks, and The Clash sucked too [x2]
If Kenny G had a Mohawk, he wouldn't be punk
If Yanni had dumb tattoos, he wouldn't be punk
If Garth Brooks pierced his nose, he wouldn't be punk
If Liberace sounded like The Clash, he wouldn't be punk
[Chorus]
You're gay, you suck [x6]
And The Clash sucked too
