If you don't have monitors and decent acoustics, compare between as many different pairs of headphones as you can. Listen to music on each pair until you get a feel for how they sound in a basic way, i.e. bassy or shrill or colored, etc. use the ones that seem most balanced as a reference and compare on the others to make sure nothing sounds terrible (with respect to reference tracks).

It's honestly not that hard; the point is really just to make sure all the tracks have a similar balance and level.

Also don't squash the fuck out of it, an average level of -16 dbFS is fine.

I recorded this entirely with a dictaphone and then arranged it in Audacity. The recordings were all done in wintry nights when I was outside of town walking around. Apparently people really liked this release. Also, I had fun turning it into a MiniCDr with artwork and all.

I listen to everything a couple of times on headphones, laptop speakers, and actual speakers to make sure everything sounds decent. I usually spend 1+ hour initially for each instrument* to sound just right before I even integrate it into a song. I spend more time on making instruments sound right than I actually spend on song structure.
*read: "instrument" since I mostly use oscillator plugins

listening to yours now, I actually love the screams unlike some. not usually a big fan of harsh noise, this has a lot of emotion behind it though. feels like trying to get a stain out that's buried in your skin. whatever happened to you, nothing anyone else can do to you makes you unclean. sorry it happened though

just curious - is there a reason there aren't lyrics posted? I look for cohesiveness quite a bit and without the lyrics I have trouble seeing it. if there are uncomfortable things about them you don't want online, just censor yourself a bit

also, the drums still sound pretty rough. any reason you didn't fix that?

admittedly there isnt a really good reason they arent posted, its mostly a stylistic choice from the band more than anything, though the more people are asking us to post them we likely will soon, and honestly, this ep isnt particularly cohesive in terms of lyrical content, but expect that to change with the album we are working on

we did clean up the drums to the best of our ability based on peoples advice, but a large part of this stems from our subpar recording set up, and our limitations are by far the most noticeable on drums, that said, we are slowly getting more familiar with how to deal with these limitations
