>Last thread: Grimes. 15% vs 85% like to dislike
I want to see if /mu/ actually likes the artists frequently memed here, I imagine this board appreciates Kanye more than Grimes
bump the thread with discussion of Kanye's music, or the results of last thread, if you vote pls
fav artist desu
yes kanye is great
grimes used to be good but art angels sucked
/mu/ loves Kanye. Honestly the guy has put out several solid albums and he deserves the love that he gets.
>>73878707
Why is that photo a PNG? It should be a JPEG. I'm going to automatically assume that your taste in music is as ignorant as your choice in image formats.
Kanye is amazing desu. Only album I dislike from him is TLOP. For the record-
1. MBDTF
2. Late Registration
3. Graduation

5. The College Dropout
6. Yeezus
7. TLOP

Not 100% sure what i'd rate each individual album right now, but definitely none of them would be lower than 7
It seems to be directly inverse to the results of the Grimes poll so far...
Is liking Kanye and liking Grimes almost mutually exclusive? It would make sense since Kanye has been a part of this board for a long time, while Grimes is mostly appreciated by people who don't consider themselves part of /mu/
>>73879338
I don't know, I just know I listened to Grimes once, and she was all right, but I didn't really care for her.
>>73879338
then this begs the question if Kanye did a collab with grimes would /mu/ love it or hate it?
>>73879450
kek I think it would sound like shit either way
maybe it could sound cool if he went back to his Yeezus style
>>73879338
/mu/ is a dirty sexist misogynistic board that hates female artists unless they're attractive.

only 12% of /mu/ thinks he makes bad music, which is probably very rare for an artist of his meme stature

be honest now, you know nothing about music, do you? you have listened to maybe 30 albums in your life
200 votes in now:
a very surprisingly large number of people who browse /mu/ like Kanye West (confidently over 80%), despite numerous threads and posts claiming that he, or just hip-hop in general, produce sub-par music. Polls like this are useful for distinguishing bait/falseflagging with true opinions on a board like this

Kanye's nigger friend asked me to take my pants off at a show in 2012. He readied a camera then Jay pantsed me.

Because the grimesfags complained there was no captcha on the last one, and they kept accusing OP and others of using a vpn to fake votes
The two things wrong with every Kanye record:
1. His mediocre rapping based on flows with little if any rhythmic variation at all.
2. Every record of his is terribly brickwalled and over compressed. This one's especially pitiful consider how massive some of his arrangements are.
If he just produced, had a fantastic technical rapper to do vocals, and didn't have goddamn Rick Rubin's influence on mixing/mastering, all his stuff would be the GOAT.

>Due to the culture of rampant contrarianism on this board, the only time you are going to see a huge majority here saying that they "like" something is when the thing in question isn't good enough to be worth hating. Likewise, the only time you are going to see a huge majority here saying that they "hate" something is when the thing in question IS good enough to be worth hating (because people throw rocks at things that shine because things that shine are easy to see.)
>For an artist, being universally loved on /mu is a bad sign. Likewise being universally hated on /mu is a bad sign. However being simultaneously strongly loved AND strongly hated by /mu is a wonderful sign, since the size of that dichotomy itself is the closest thing this place has to offer to a true judgment of artistic value.
Consequently external polls like this are gonna be useless in determining anything. The only way to tell how much this board actually likes a particular artist is by how much they get talked about - which is to say, how frequently they get mentioned by posters ON THE BOARD during any particular span in time. For example here are from stats for the artists mentioned by the OP since January 1st, 2017:
>Grimes
https://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/mu/search/text/grimes/start/2017-01-01/
18863 results found.
>Kanye
https://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/mu/search/text/kanye/start/2017-01-01/
11787 results found.
How does [MyFavoriteArtist] match up during a particular span in time? Do your own search and see.
>>73889240
grimes literally has a general filled with largely the same posters each time, flawed comparison and your basis for its validity over a poll is purely conjecture
in short, suck my ass dude.
>>73889308
>grimes literally has a general filled with largely the same posters each time
Just like every other general thread on /mu. Including the occasional Kanye general. This is an anonymous board. There is no way of measuring HOW MANY individual people talk about/like anything. The best you can do is measure HOW MUCH the board as a whole talks about something - which is what I'm getting at.
>>73889308
>your basis for its validity over a poll is
An automated archive of all posts made /mu. Which is clearly a more reliable source for statistical information than an infinitely hackable internet pool. You could even use this as the basis for a formal scientific study since anyone can run the same search I did and get the same results.
Here are a few more:
>Trent Resnor
https://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/mu/search/text/trent/start/2017-01-01
1952 results found.
>David Bowie
https://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/mu/search/text/bowie/start/2017-01-01
6903 results found.
Imo it's a pity RBT doesn't have a "most commonly used words" feature of some sort. Then we could tell upfront who it is actually gets discussed here most. As it is, you're stuck relying on specific searches based on your own intuition.
>>73878812
>graduation above college dropout
but that's wrong, anon
>>73889240
You do realize that the large amount of results is mainly responsible on the fact that there have been constant debates about how Grimes fans are affecting the board over the past few months, right?
>>73889240
>rampant contrarianism on this board
99% of /mu/core is either very obscure but still heavily praised by those who know about it or very popular and very well-received. /Mu/ is more mainstream than you think, see
>Kanye
>King Crimson
>The Beatles
>The Beach Boys
>Neutral Milk Hotel
>Slint
all of which have received rave reviews, yet /mu/ loves them. The real contrarians on this board are a few people who parrot Scaruffi or Christgau's opinions
>>73878707
81% say he makes good music
19% say he makes bad music
Grimes fags eternally BTFO can we make it a ban worthy offence to grimes post now????
>>73889857
Those conversations wouldn't be happening if she wasn't being posted about here so much in the first place. People don't talk about things they truly don't like talking about unless they are forced to, and there is nothing forcing anyone to post about Grimes (or Kanye/whomever else) on this board against their own free will. Unless you think people can actually control you through a computer screen...
>>73889967
And the reason that the conversations are happening is because people are complaining that she's being posted so often yet a lot of it is not music related. Think about it, there's almost a daily general, and a lot of the posts are "Grimes is so cute" or "tfw no Grimes gf". These generals also remarkably say the subject's name more often than any other generals, in like a David Bowie general (or even this Kanye general), people will address the artist as "him" or "he" as they discuss their music.
LR < CD < MBDTF < G < TLOP < 808 < Yeezus
objective rank
MBDTF -> TLOP ---> LR -> 808's -> Graduation -> CD -> Yeezus
i don't listen to kanye but i definitely respect the work he is doing
>>73890020
>a lot of it is not music related
Of course. But so is a lot of everything else posted on /mu. Statistically it evens out.
These generals also remarkably say the subject's name more often than any other generals,
The current Grimes general >>73865236 at 176 posts has
45 instances of "Grimes"
52 instances of "she"
52 instances of "her"
That's 45 + 52 + 52 = 45 out of 149 or a ratio of roughly 1/3 as many mentions of Grimes with a proper noun compared to with a pronoun.
In contrast, this thread at 109 posts has
38 instances of "Kanye"
15 instances of "he"
8 instances of "him"
That's 38 + 15 + 8 = 38 out of 61 or roughly 2/1 as many mentions of Kanye with a proper noun compared to with a pronoun.
So, if anything, current evidence indicates the exact opposite. And, mind you, this thread isn't even a proper Kanye general. Generals will always have FEWER proper noun name-references to the artist/subject they are talking about, since to whom pronouns are meant to refer can always be extrapolated from the OP.
