lyrically and attitude-wise, Pink Floyd has more in common with '70's punk.
Musically there's nothing similar except that Boston and Fleetwood Mac have elite musicianship. I don't really know REO but they seem to be more in the Journey vein than the others, and certainly have no similarities with Pink Floyd.
Maybe it's the production that makes you think these bands are similar? Or is it just that they're all from the '70's and so is your dad and maybe you're mad at your dad for telling you, "You're 28 years old, son, you're going to have to get a job and move out of my house"? Idk, just guessing.

None of those bands are related in anyway to Pink Floyd anyway. REO, Boston, and Styx all lead off towards modern soft rock/adult alternative. Fleetwood Mac definitely leans towards folk rock. And Aerosmith helped give us hair rock.

They were psychadelic rock and later poppy space rock. Indeed they arent prog like many other prog bands are. More related to prog in the vein of Supertramp if anything.
