Finally went to play my best guitar and found the neck broken. Maybe I didn't loosen the tension properly before UPS got it. I didn't take the guitar out after delivery. I just did a visual inspection and it looked good. It's been in storage for the last two months. Fuck!

Anyway, wat do?

I'm looking to get my first amp. Mostly into high gain, loud and heavy music, but also some clean stuff.
Would a roland micro cube GX suffice for a bedroom situation or should I ignore that and get a bigger (10 or 20 watt) one? I could really use some advice on this, as the supply of "beginner" amps turns out to be pretty huge.
I had my eye on the yamaha THR10, but that's quite pricey (which isn't necessarily a deal breaker) and may ONLY be suited for bedroom use and not for doing anything with other musicians.

Anybody mitigate ground loops and or noise in their signal chain by using an isolated power supply for their pedals? I'm thinking about getting a Voodoo labs pedal power 2, and I hope that would get rid of the noise in my signal chain because currently most of my pedals are daisy chained together.

No, don't buy into the marketing/collectors hype for buying new guitar. Anything with a good setup and decent pups will suit you just fine.

Try to find some used squire affinity or classic vibe series, those are by far the best value on the market. I would recommend starting with an acoustic though, like a baby taylor. The most crucial thing is that you try these instruments out. Don't fall for the online buy meme

I upgraded from my Squier to a Fender this way. Did three payments of $200 with Sweetwater. I'm assuming you're talking about Zzounds with those 8 payments and it's not a scam at all. The Foo Fighters wouldn't sell out arenas without the cult of personality built around Dave because of Nirvana's success

The only people who like this guy at balding 30-40 something year olds who wear Affliction T-shirts and cargo shorts. The "Homer Simpson" men. Docile, fat, lazy, etc.

He was Nirvana's 6th drummer, he'd be working in McDonalds without Cobain.
He didn't even do a lot of the drumming on Nirvana records anyway.

Foo Fighters is boring radio rock. It's funny how the same people who say that Foo Fighters are "true rock band, keeping the genre alive" say something like Nickel-back is terrible when they're pretty much the same safe, bland radio rock.

It says what it is right there on the front plate. I think I read somewhere it's similar to a Brownface? Wouldn't know, never used one. A/B class, 15 W, tube amp. Preamp with clean channel and "dirty" channel, which has two overdrive stages (so basically, you get either no overdrive, a little OD or a lot of OD). Some switches for tweaking. Clean channel has 2 band EQ, OD channel has 3 band EQ. Independent volume control for both channels. FX loop. Output 4, 8 or 16 Ohms.
You can buy an addon circuit board that lets you add a footswitch for channel switching; I made my own from scratch (left button switches clean / OD, right button switches second OD stage on/off).

What do you do with these? Do you just plug them into a cab or do you need to plug them into an amp? From what I can gather the Axe FX-II just plugs into a cab and then you can pick which amp and cab you want to emulate but what about the AX8?
>>
>>73832349
I can't even find anything about the Axe Fx II's or the AX8's maximum power output but since they're just modellers / multi effects units I doubt they provide much in the way of amplification. Ideally you'd plug them into a neutral amp (essentially a power amp that tries its best to not affect sound apart from the volume) before the loudspeaker.

I can say rocksmith is a great tool to learning the guitar it helps build your muscle memory for chord shapes and gives beginners a sense of satisfaction that doesn't often come easy to beginners. It doesn't teach theory persay but it teaches basic guitar skills to help with simply playing the instrument. anyone who is serious enough about music before trying rocksmith will eventually learn theory on their own but with greater ability as they already have the fine skills needed for the instrument and those who don't, well there needs to be another punk revival I guess

what are the most essential fx for a guitarist?

I mean, there's no particular sound I want to achieve, I play various genres, I just need the basic stuff to grow and develop my sound

Are Dagonfire pickups actually good or just overhyped cheap shit? I was going to turn my P bass into a PJ bass with the SD antiquity pickups, but I'm thinking about getting their standard jazz pickups after hearing the above average reviews saying they are "hidden gems" for the price.

If I wire it as P volume + J volume + Master tone will it give me a better palette or just some more treble?
>>
>>73835480
A Big Muff is a fuzz. They're used everywhere in rock apart from really heavy metal a-la death/black. They're especially prevalent in Indie and Stoner. Stoner is essentially built around fuzz.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9kMoN7hmlE This song uses Fuzz. Specifically a BAT Pharaoh, which is a modified Big Muff circuit.

An OD is probably the most popular of the three. They're used for going from clean to light gain, such as a blues tone, or used to boost an already crunched amp to go into high gain. The difference between this high gain and a distortion pedal would be that using an OD as a boost preserves the amp's tone.

A distortion can go from clean amp to ultra-high gain. This is the type of pedal you would find in extreme metal. They're not only used in that style obviously, I'm just giving an example. Using a distortion pedal into a clean amp will give you more of the pedal's tone.

Some classic examples of the three would be the Big Muff, the Tubescreamer, and the Boss DS-1.
>>
>>73835487
That video might help me.

>>
>>73835487
jack white uses a decent amount of pedals i dont know what you're talking about. he uses fuzzes and whammy pedals all over the place
>>
>>73835784
Yeah but using a whammy to substitute a bass player isn't really a necessary part of his tone.

>>
>>73835741
Yeah the zoom has both usb and midi capability, so you can record direct from it. It's good and also has a looper built in, but I don't personally like any of the dirt effects on them.
>>
>>73835826
he's not the edge level with pedals, but he's not completely barebones blues rock despite what he says and people believe. he's really barebones on the early albums though

I wouldn't be turning it into a J bass, I would just be adding a bridge J pickup for versatility. P neck and J bridge are very common setups.

the metronome sound near the end cracked me up. he's right about metronomes though. they aren't really that helpful, being able to play along to songs and matching a human drummers feel is more important than matching up against some perfectly timed beat, no one plays like that.

Should I buy an overdrive if I already have a distortion?
My distortion gets really noisy and loud really easily but it sounds kinda lousy at lower settings so it would help if I could get something that beefs up the tone
>>
>>73837548
yes. try a soul food. leave the distortion pedal for distorted leads and get an over drive for low gain blues crunchy stuff. you can gain stack them but it depends on how the pedals work together, some do, some don't.

what is that thing? Does a pick go in there?

I have a tubemeister 5 watt head plugged into a 1x12 eminence cab. In the next month I'll be moving into a two floor apartment with the girlfriend. Basically asking for advice on how best to use this rig in an apartment without getting the cops called for noise. Foam panels? Etc.?
>>
>>73838241
Get an isolation cab and start listening through a set of studio monitors.
>>
>>73838241
sell your girlfriend and buy sound proofing for the walls
>>
>>73825079
why are metal guitars so ugly
>>
>>73838241
lol, no. walls are paper thin, not even 12 layers of sound proofing pads could stop the sound. you might as well switch to digital stuff onto your pc,
5 tube watts is like 15 solid state watts, it's too loud even at 2 on the volume

Seriously though, a great example of how having zero self-awareness is such fertile ground for internet memes.

I have neck breaks on the brain. Usually, it's a clean break at the joint. Mine, on the other hand, is a real shit show. (See earlier in thread.)
>>
>>73839062
Just get some wood glue in there, get the splinters together and clamp it real good for 48 hours, then wet sand the crack. It might not look perfect with poly, but it will feel good. You might need to fill it with something if it's still not good.
