I don't think it's bad. It looks totally divorced from the music scene a nowadays but so will everything that exists now in 10 years.

It has personality and it paints a picture of the album, if being kind of phoned-in.

Maybe I'm a bit blinded by the fact that I'm a graphic artist and most people don't appreciate how hard it is to illustrate but yeah, I like it.

On the other hand: CGI album cover that violates basic color theory and visual hierarchy.

Maximalist but has nothing else interesting to rely on except being maximalist and doesn't really communicate or accomplish anything except looking like the height of computer graphics in 2003. Only it came out in 2016.

The Astonishing's album cover is all but, I'm afraid.
