nobody i know plays 10 hours a day. even students in conservatory might spend 6 or 7 tops. why practice a LOT? the key is to practice SMARTLY. no sense playing for 10 hours just to say you did it. play less, think more.
>>
>>73801590
okay how long does it usually take to get decent then?
>>
>>73801606
3 or 4 hours a day. You might have to sacrifice 4chan. This shit will consume you.
>>
What do I do if I have no space for a piano, but still want to practice?

you can get decent at a single song in a few days if you really drill it. the key is, set practice goals for yourself. say " i'm going to accomplish 3 lines of this song by the end of practice today" then do it.
or whatever that goal might be.
you can get mad decent at a single song really fast. but being able to master the piano takes years....

might i suggest one of yamaha's amazing digital pianos from the P- or CP- series? they have speakers and sound great, and don't take up much room. plus plug in headphones if you don't want to bother your neighbors.
>>
>>73801713
Well how long would I take to be able to Create my own melodies and songs?
>>

I need a Romantic piano piece to play that's about the same difficulty as Ravel's Pavane and Brahms' Op. 118 No. 2. the more saccharine and romantic the better
whatchu got senpai

What are some good online sources for learning music theory? I already did everything on musictheory.net but I feel like there's more after that. Also, what kind of practice should I do if I want to recognize notes/chords by ear? I've only been learning music theory for 4 weeks (and I know it'll take a while, I'm a fast learner but impatient) and it bothers me a bit that I have to have the sheet music in front of me to analyze it
>>
>>73801788
you can start on day 1. learn some chords and start plunking around. nothing is stopping you
>>
>>73801892
not OP but do the ear training stuff here
https://www.teoria.com/en/exercises/
you probably won't be able to hear a Eb and go "this is an Eb" but you can at least figure out intervals and melodies by ear with some practice

i love playing that brahms intermezzo. might i suggest chopin etudes. they are beautiful and can also help develop your technique. plus there are plenty to chooose from. if you like saccharine and similar to the brahms might i suggest going with chopin opus 10 number 3 etude
>>
>>73801908
Well you're most certainly going to sound awful if you just pluck around without any knowledge of music theory.

i would make sure you get a pedal at least for your MIDI controller. However, MIDI controllers have a real plastic feel to them. if you try a Yamaha digital piano you might feel more like a real piano. MIDI controllers don't have WEIGHT to their keys... while real pianos do. So it can get you started but it's nothing like the real thing
>>
What's your favorite thing to play?

how can i learn how to play with both hands?

Play some "Don't Stop Believin'" or maybe some "Tiny Dancer" instead.
>>

it requires a purchase, but try alfred's music theory online. it will help you go more in-depth. to learn to recognize notes and chords by ear, you will have to practice. close your eyes and hit a random note. see if you get it right. this takes a lot of time though. also listen to music by rock pianists (like jerry lee lewis or elton john) and try to play along.... this will help you start to learn getting chords by ear. this is much more complex though be warned.

i love entertaining audiences as well as being meditative.
for entertiaining, i love 80s metal songs.
for meditative, i love debussy.
>>
>>73802007
depends on what kind.
for a dueling pianist you will pay $300 for a club or 1000 per night for a private event.
for a light jazz, classical pianist you will pay about $100 per hour
>>
>>73802114
You love debussy?
I'm surprised.

No I mean a player piano not a piano player

i don't care about them, other than they are good for people who don't know how to play piano show off to their friends their "technology toy" that can play any kind of music like a jukebox. best buy for non-musicians.
>>
>>73802097
Don't trust this guy he keeps shilling this book.

It's probably a shit book
>>
>>73802160
"probably" a shit book.
look fucker i've got 20+ years of experience and i teach at the college level. i 'm not going to recommend a "shit" book. gtfo of my thread
>>
Best digital piano for under 1000 ?
>>
why are piano players such cunts?
>>
i can play basic stuff, but mainly from ear. is there a cheat to sheet reading? i know face and every good boy deserves fudge, but im not getting any better
>>
>>73801993
im struggling with this too
>>
>>73802822
Not him but try using the exercises on musictheory.net, and then memorize each note based off of that. Once you do it (using EGBDF and FACE) for long enough you'll eventually just see what the notes are by their location quickly. Takes a lot of practice.
>>
>>73802847
Practice? I've heard that helps, but I don't really have any data to back that up.
>>
>>73801419
Can I learn the piano from watching anime?
>>
>>73803097
nope. sorry.
>>
>>73802868
the piano professor agrees. (OP)
>>
>>73801606
~10,000 hours of practice
>>
>>73801419
Can you play fugues? if so what is your favorite to play?
>>
>>73803289
i can but they are challenging. i don't have a favorite. bach fugues are great technical exercises, especially 3 and 4 part fugues which aren't for beginners. to really play a fugue well, one has to know where all the themes begin and end....
>>
>>73803394
Have you ever tried to write one?
>>
>>73802510
Because we're more intelligent, capable, and sophisticated than guitar players
>>
How do you develop your ability to recognize and identify chord progressions by ear? I see a lot of exercises and apps for learning to recognize intervals between individual notes, so that's no problem, but I've known people who can listen a song and identify the progression via roman numeral analysis, and I don't know how to get there.
>>
How can I find an amateur piano club -- some place where amateurs put on recitals? I want to play and listen and maybe make a friend ;_; Classical only preferred but I'll take what I can get.
