The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

>Dead - Musical Abortions
The intro is neat and made me think this would be different but it feels like the same song and nothing really happening (in a bad way) and they just realize about this too late with Mephestopholes, good thing it didn't take them longer and end it fast.
Is this just there because "muh (once) obscure record" or what?

If anyone is interested, I started a new YouTube channel with funny but insightful music reviews. Every Wednesday I'll feauture a new free to download Bandcamp release. It'll be a way for both me and whoever is watching to discover a new otherwise unknown release each week.

Here's the first Bandcamp review video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWpRvqR88vE

Also, on Saturdays I review a mainstream release. If you like it, make sure to subscribe. It'll encourage me to make more and keep featuring underground releases.

I was dreading listening to The Gaslamp Killer, but after downloading the EP I realized that I had mistaken them for The Gaslight Anthem lmao

>Peace Orchestra - Peace Orchestra
There are some parts that are kind of like atmospheric dnb which I enjoyed, but a lot of it is pretty boring downtempo with "ethnic" elements and occasional vocals. And since all of the songs are fairly long, the less interesting ones end up wearing out their welcome quickly.
3

>The Gaslamp Killer - Death Gate
This is freaking weird, especially the Gonjasufi feature. I guess it's psychadelic? It's interesting, but really not my thing. The drumming is pretty sweet though.
2.5

>The Reptilian - Boys' Life
This is so more much overtly mathy than the other emo I've listened to. I like it, but honestly it's kind of distracting. Also the vocals (whenever they're present) feel more sloppy than raw or emotional.

Putting my ass to bed now.

>Larry Young - Unity (1966)

Can you believe it took me this long to get to this? I can't. This band is absolutely on fire. I'm catching onto the idea Elvin Jones must be my all-time favorite drummer, and the rhythms all throughout are always furious and flexible and mind-bending. His style here as dreamlike and feverish and pairs well with Joe Henderson's sax. So as to not let you forget it's Larry Young's album, he's the star of the next track and the few after, a familiar Thelonius Monk tune that had always admittedly bored me just a little, but the performance here gives it much more of an edge. This album feels so liberated and unhinged and almost like some primitive expression of a feeling.

Andy Stott - Faith in Strangers (2014)
>post-industrial, electronic, UK bass

Admittedly incredibly well-produced, but so frustratingly immobile and murky. Stott is at his best here when producing more more typical techno, like on the absolutely banging "Damage", but his more experimental efforts coupled with his efforts at pop make for something incredibly bland and drab. "Drab" really is the best way to describe this, Stott utilizes such a limited pallete of sound, and rather than transforming this into something minimalistic and interesting, he makes something infuriatingly one-note and samey.

2.0+

Kid Koala - Some of My Best Friends Are DJs (2003)
>turntablism, instrumental hip hop

Kid Koala's DJing here is wonderful, the scratching is perfect and his samples are utilized perfectly. His performance here never really amounts to anything more than the turntablist equivalent to a virtuosic guitar player, however. He's got obvious chops, and he's not afraid to show them off, but his chops don't translate well to interesting songwriting, making his beats seem limp and repetitive. "Vacation Island" is a great track, juxtaposing chill, summery samples with banging drums, but besides that the tracks tend to meander too much and the drums are almost laughably soft.

The Chemical Brothers - Dig Your Own Hole (1997)
>big beat

One of the most genuinely rocking dance albums I've ever heard, and for that I have to commend it. There's some typical '90s cheesiness here that really hurts the album, as is the case with lots of big beat, and a lot of the tracks more indebted to EDM and techno tend to drag on for far too long. These things certainly do drag the album down, but there are so many tracks that are just straight up fun that I can't complain too much, and a lot of the breaks are executed incredibly well.

>Nick Drake - Pink Moon
>guy+guitar

Watching fireworks and hearing this made me inordinately sad. It's always easy for a single person and a guitar to feel so small and personal, after hearing so many bands, groups, and collectives.

7/10

>Can - Tago Mago
>psych prog rock

Not as dead sounding as Ege, which is great. This was the first album with Kenji Suzuki's flat-line vocals. Oh Yeah's influence on Radiohead is very obvious.

Halleluhwah refuses to be engaging until it's too late.

Aumgn is the centerpiece. It manages to use manipulated acoustic sounds and voice + reverb (of course), building a contained, concentrated track of one could consider to be Can's true sound. Though some portions of the song feel trivial and silly like a Coil - Time Machines rip-off, the ending ensures it to be my favorite track from the group.

The rest is forgettable. Someone suggested that their casual playing is what makes them great, but everything they do feels so dead. Like eating shitty bitter broccoli. Or licking a table. Or biting into metal.

5-/10

>Jaco Pastorius - Jaco Pastorius
>Jazz Fusion/Funk

damn look at that credits list, so may big names

Pastorius' bass has just the right tone and presence to be relaxing and stimulating. At points it's just a bit too repetitive to be loud alongside the rest of the players, but that may just be the mixing on this 40 year old thing.

Don Alias is p neat on bongos and percussion work. Herbie's piano on Kuru / Speak like a Child? THAT'S the Herbie I want more of.

Portrait of Lucy and Okonkole y Trompa are real standouts, too.

7/10

>GS Sachdev - Bansuri: The Bamboo Flute of India
>Hindustani Classical

what is says on the cover. I wish the strings or whatever in the background weren't just looped to forever behind the flute's solo, the entire album feels like one really long solo that never ends. Even when the pitch of the background changes just for the last track.

>Steppenwolf - Steppenwolf
>Rock

I expected to hate this, but there's some fun melodies here, compensating for the pure dadrock. Never got sick of hearing this unlike the Beatles. Had the same problem of having only one catchy track (take a guess), but the lyrics in songs like The Pusher truly embody the early rock movement. You know, drugs and all.

6-/10

>Van Morrison - Moondance
>Folk Rock Pop

The album cover game is so strong. But the music is for the elderly.

I appreciate when Morrison reaches for higher notes, and his voice goes from "oooh" to "eeeaaaaaah". The outside genre influences may have made the individual tracks more interesting, but still contribute to the hokeyness of this whole album. It's like I'm trapped at some Western family gathering, I want to escape help

4/10

>Joanna Newsom - Divers
>Chamber Folk/Pop

Chamber Pop at its finest. Traditional lyrics delivering a narration, a distinct singing voice brimming with personality, a plethora of instruments to give each track its own standing, orchestral arrangement from Nico Muhly and David Longstreth, full modern production with room to support hooks. And an excellent performer to boot.

Not only is it easily enjoyable, but the concept behind the album can be interpreted artistically, or through Newsom's own nonchalant views. She doesn't take herself too seriously (married to Andy Samberg, after all), and emotion is enough for her. This whole album seems steeped in imaginary conflicts against unknown greater forces, but Newsom's made it clear that the album's layers are to be freely interpreted.

In a way, it seems like a copout, given questions about art losing its meaning when found everywhere. But Newsom provides with more than enough to ensure we're not staring at a pineapple left in an art exhibit floor.

>>
Denzel Curry - 13 (2017)
>trap rap, southern hip hop, hardcore hip hop

More concise and less hook-heavy than Imperial, and therefore, I like it quite a bit more. "Heartless" is a very obvious low point, featuring a weirdly irritating performance from Curry, and the constant repetition of the word "ultimate" can grate. Disregarding these, this is hit after hit. On every track here Curry cements himself as one of the most visceral, entertaining rappers around, and the beats match his energy perfectly. The Lil Ugly Mane-featuring closer is a big highlight, and one of the best tracks of the year.

3.0-

Jay Electronica - Act 1: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge) (2007)
>experimental hip hop, abstract hip hop, southern hip hop

Electronica really is a great rapper, but I really fail to see this as anything more than a failed experiment. The usage of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind samples is done really well, especially in the second half of the EP where Electronica actually raps, utilizing the score's generally wistful nature to contrast Electronica's gruff voice to wonderful effect. The second half of the track is pretty decent. Not anything incredible, but Electronica's flow is mesmerizing and it's just generally enjoyable to listen to. The first half of the track, on the other hand, is totally pointless. It's literally just seven minutes of spoken word testimonials of why Electronica is so great set to piano from Eternal Sunshine's score. Sure, the piano is soothing, but it's absolutely pointless and arrogant.

Earl Sweatshirt - EARL (2010)
>west coast hip hop, hardcore hip hop, horrorcore

An edgy teenager makes an edgy album full of rape and murder jokes. It's funny listening to this now, considering Sweatshirt has definitely ascended to the top of the rap game as an introspective, dark rapper with projects like I Don't Like Shit... and Solace. Here, there's no introspection, just shitty punchlines coupled with crunchy production and choppy flows. The production is sometimes pretty solid, but that's mostly due to the very lo-fi sound, they're pretty mindless and simple underneath their aesthetic. Sweatshirt shows promise, certainly, but he definitely does not realize it here.

Good-day /daily/, how are you guys? Tried the following;

>The Get Up Kids - Something to Write Home About. The album title says it all, a lot more variation for an emo album than is the usual fair, I'd honestly argue it to be alt-rock really (though no-one wants to be labelled as such). Red Letter Day and I'll Catch You both do a great job of combining lyrical poignancy with urgent guitar riffs and vocals.
>Hiatus Kaiyote - Tawk Tomahawk. Love the glitch-inspired samples on this album crossed with soul harmonies. Mobius Streak gets an honorable mention.
>Snowing - Fuck Your Emotional Bullshit. The vocals on Pump Fake are brilliant though I laughed hard when I first heard them. The album as a whole is far better than I was expecting though what is with the emo/ math rock guitar tone I've been noticing a lot? Like there's this certain high-pitched twang on the guitars that a lot of these bands seem to have (see Kirk Cameron Crowe, for example).

>>73798355

Half Japanese - 1/2 Gentlemen / Not Beasts
[1980]

Soo I often saw this grouped together with Twin Infinitives and I assumed this would be an intricate, complex musical puzzle like Royal Trux's masterpiece. What I got instead was some guys fucking around making gross covers of rock artists of their time, paired with some original Half Japanese-made pieces (mostly on the theme of girls and of the singers' problems with girls), and with some admittedly sweet sounding interludes. It doesn't go deeper than "we purposefully play bad songs", it's just as superficial as it seems. Some of the experiments are cool, the more minimal/interludish tracks i dug a lot, but yeah this is no fun.

>Fruit Bats - Absolute Loser (2016)

I dig everything I've heard from these guys so far and this one is no different. Out of the endless sea of indie folk acts playing 1970-sounding stuff, these guys do the best job at making the whole aesthetic not just some shallow, cosmetic touch. Not to mention, they can write melodies around any of their peers. It comes across as genuine and nearly as timeless-sounding as its inspiration material, anyway. This album, in fact, eases up just a tiny bit on the revivalist Allman Brothers sound of Tripper, which is likely my favorite Fruit Bats album. Clear highlight is the centerpiece, "Baby Bluebird", which is somewhat in the style of a My Morning Jacket ballad, and sounds as pretty and soulful as anything they've released so far.

>Terry Riley - In C (1968)

Spiritually, this is somewhere between Music for 18 Musicians and Unjust Malaise. It's not as organized and composed as the former and not quite as unhinged as the latter. The only Terry Reid I've heard so far is the followup, A Rainbow in Curved Air, which I must admit I didn't love as much as anyone else. This one's quite different though; from what I understand, almost nothing is concrete about this composition. It has vague movements to guide the musicians throughout the piece, but how long each movement lasts and how many and which instruments play isn't specified. It creates this odd near-psychedelic buzzing effect with notes (all in the key of C) radiating all around. I can't stress enough how this isn't some technical piece in the way Steve Reich or Philip Glass would compose, but something closer to a jam.

Run The Jewels - RTJ3
More of RTJ’s formula (Which is to say, their alternating verses and duty as hypemen as well as lyrical themes), if you like RAP Music or RTJ1/2 you’ll probably like it. Pretty consistent in terms of quality and EL-P’s synth heavy production is still good if you like how he handles it, it doesn’t have that much variety. Their wokeness is more pronounced on this album than most of their previous work with songs like “2100” or “Thursday In The Danger Room” (which features some saxophone in the beat from Kamasi Washington) or “A Report To The Shareholders: Kill Your Masters” (which features the return of Zack de la Rocha from RATM who was featured on their previous album).

>Jääportit - Kauan koskematon
Beautiful.. Every track felt really special and emotional, and that's impressive in this genre. Best dungeon synth I've listened to, even though I've probably only listened to less then 10 dungeon synth albums. This is music for wonder and Nordic awe.. music for contemplation.
4.5/5
>Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra / London Symphony Orchestra / Krakow Philharmonic Chorus / Krzysztof Penderecki / Wanda Wiłkomirska - Matrix 5
Genius. Reminded me of a lot of Pakistani Pomade with the complex percussion sections (an album I have rated 5/5). Very unnerving, absolutely amazing record.. one of the best pieces of classical music I've ever heard.
4.5/5
>Roland Kayn - Tektra
Meditative, but not in a peaceful way.. actually quite ominous and dark. At the same time, very ethereal and colossal. I was lost in it for most of 4.5+ hours, swimming through the unknown darkness and feeling my soul erode (to try to describe it using some metaphorical bullshit).

>9mm Parabellum Bullet - Gjallarhorn
Just some nice high energy j-rock. Dunno why there's screaming out of nowhere on one of the songs though.
3+

>TOKiMONSTA - Midnight Menu
I remember this being really popular when it came out, but for some reason I don't like it. I think it's because it's somewhere in the middle of "interesting" and "pleasant," without doing one or the other well enough to either stand out or be good backround music.
2.5+

>discuss - Aeration Swells
Post-rock with electronic/IDM elements isn't exactly uncommon, but here I think it's done competently, and the vocals are also a nice addition. Some of the synths sound a little cheap though.

Some quick reggae reviews and then I'm finishing up The Keepers on Netflix, which is super good in a Making a Murderer way.

>The Mighty Diamonds - Right Time (1976)

This is a 180-degree turn from other reggae I've been listening to lately. This is truly some roots stuff with the main focus on the vocal harmonies with only minimal instrumentation. The melodies they sing are the main attraction here and they strike me as so simple and yearning and sweet and sad throughout the album, all in a way that feels wholesome and good for the soul.
7/10

>Burning Spear - Marcus Garvey (1975)

Another departure in my reggae listening habits. No doubt this is a political album. I often find the notion of political reggae incongruous, even though its roots lie in strife. It rarely sounds violent or angry to my ears. Maybe I'm missing some point. Nonetheless, the lyrics from front-to-back deal with slavery ("do you remember the days of slavery"?) and black nationalist, Marcus Garvey. There are highly memorable repetitive hooks that are rightly for recognized as so.

It was good but not amazing. He didn't play any Twin Fantasy songs which was somewhat disappointing, but I didn't expect him to anyway. I personally enjoy Teens of Denial and most of those songs are fun live. The absolute highlight of the night was his cover of Bowie's Teenage Wildlife. He's a reserved guy on stage even when performing his own songs, but he absolutely killed that cover. It pissed me off that most of the crowd probably had no idea what the song was. The crowd was the worst part, but I was with friends so it was ok.

Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness (1989)
>death metal

This strikes me as really average death metal, I can't really see what all the fuss is about. It's average death metal done well with absolutely blistering performances, but it doesn't reinvent the wheel and it doesn't do what it does as well as more urgent, raw albums like Human or None So Vile. "Immortal Rites" makes the whole damn thing worthwhile, and it could serve well as a primer for the genre as a whole, but beyond that I don't really get the hype.

2.5

Summoning - Stronghold (1999)
>atmospheric black metal, symphonic black metal

Ridiculously over-the-top in the absolute best way possible. This synth-laden, "epic" stuff usually grates on me horribly, and this certainly has its fair share of dated, hilariously cheesy moments, but the atmosphere this album creates is often breath-takingly beautiful, and incredibly evocative. Dungeon synth serves as a major influence here, but this albums presents a big-budget, kaleidoscopic version of the genre that perfectly contrasts and compliments the rawer, grittier black metal. This is really a wonderful album, and I thought I'd absolutely despise it.

MM and Dino Jr. do great shows even if they haven't done much great music recently.

Isaac Brock pointed at me and said he liked my Hulkmania shirt and then said "if one of those glowsticks hits anyone in my band I'm gonna slit your fucking throats" because Purity Ring fans (who played before them) handed them out before the show.

the usual drill, someone rec me a hex code and an album to finish off this chart

Willie Nelson - Shotgun Willie (1973)
>outlaw country

Weaker than it's wonderful successor, Phases and Stages, suffering from too much of a western swing influence and a general bend toward over-produced ballads rather than the tried and true formula of Nelson and Trigger singing down-to-earth country tunes. When this album does lean more towards that latter style, filled to the brim with melancholic, self-deprecating lyrics and rocking, outlaw attitudes, it's awesome, but the ballads are generally a lot lamer. The Nashville sound of Nelson's earlier albums rears it's ugly head on nearly every single ballad here, leaving only the wonderfully epic closer "A Song for You" unscathed. Ugly as shit cover art, pretty solid album.

Me and my friend were talking about this.. why does 2008 in particular have such a unique sound in regards to mainstream music? We'll listen to something and be like "this has got to be 2008", and it always is.. but we don't really know what element makes something sound "like 2008"

aw fuck man. i'm so sorry. i have no clue what will hit you where you need, and i'm terrible at recommending songs because I listen to a lot of long compositions, but try these records.

John Adams - The Dharma at Big Sur
>My favorite classical composition. please listen to this, especially because most of the others are /mu/core and pretty well known. even if you don't listen to classical, listen to this.

Songs: Ohia - Magnolia Electric Co.
>Americana, sort of. good for this kind of feel.

Fishmans - 98.12.28
>Dub live CD that's easy to get lost in. I'm recommending it because it was their last show, recorded about a month before the lead singer passed away.

Angels of Light - How I Loved You
>Swans without the hardcore. sympathetic.

and i feel like i'd be dumb if i didn't mention the recent big death records, Skeleton Tree and A Crow Looked At Me. both very good for this kind of thing, I'd imagine.

but honestly man, it's times like these where the songs and albums that have been with you for years are gonna really pull through. everyone has known loss at some point in their life and everyone here wishes they could do more to help. I'm sorry for your loss.

Deftones - Saturday Night Wrist (2006)
>alternative metal, alternative rock

White Pony is one of my most hated "classic" records, so imagine my shock when this turns out pretty decent. The more artsy elements are still done incredibly poorly, as is the shoegaze, but the straightforward metal is pretty good. Doesn't reach the metal highlights of the otherwise poor Around the Fur, but it gets shockingly heavy at points, and pretty entertaining. The whole album also has a cohesive, dark, somewhat scary theme that gives it a boost. Underrated.

2.0+

Deathspell Omega - Paracletus (2010)
>black metal

A slight improvement over the already very good Fas – Ite, maledicti, in ignem aeternum. The progressive and avant-garde elements are turned up to ten in the most radical deconstruction of black metal I've heard. Gone is standard tremolo picking and blastbeats, in are incredibly odd time signatures and some of the most dissonant, out-there riffs I've ever heard. Sometimes its avant-garde leanings can cause it to drift and meander, despite it's general tightness. As a whole, one of the better metal albums of the decade.

3.0+

Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene (1976)
>progressive electronic

Given how massive of a commercial success this was, it would be easy to write it off as a commercial bastardization of a distinctly un-commercial genre of music. Mostly, that's a correct assumption, but Jarre's too good of a composer and performer to fully let that happen. Some pop elements drag this down, and it's generally just a pretty safe, bland album, but the soundscaping is immaculate and the general sound is very pleasant.

Hello all, long time no see! Life has been real busy recently but I'm sorry I haven't stopped by all that often. I was thinking of posting a chart every so often but I'm not sure if anyone would be interested enough to follow along.

In other news, I got drunk and saw someone play the bass sax in concert which was better than expected.

Man I'm still potentially still ahead of you on the /mu/core chart! Only like 5 bleeps and 10 metal albums left for me.

Still shocked that you haven't heard Alice, Karma or The Chronic! Knowing your tough rating system you'll pan at least one of the three but hopefully you get something out of em. Three of my favorites, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
>>
>>73822911
yeah, for how much music i've listened to i've sure missed out on a lot of classics.

also it's probably pretty safe that i'll like those three, Alice and Karma are pretty obvious and i'm a big fan of pretty much every big song from the Chronic.

I'm always intrigued to see what albums you've heard because you've ranked like 1000 more than me (or something absurd) but missed on a few I'd definitely consider essential. Funny how music works like that.

Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die (1996)
>post-rock, experimental rock

First two tracks are absolute monsters, the album fizzled out a little bit after them. "Djed" is a near-perfect track, 21-minutes without a single wasted second, creating a perfect mix of krautrock, dub, minimalism, and pretty much every genre under the sun. Every second in the track matters, no matter how chilled out it may be, and the performances (espeically the tight, groovy drumming) are all immaculate. "Glass Museum"'s more active, rocky sound is the yin to "Djed"'s yang, and it's just as good. With the remaining four tracks, the album never truly falters, but the compositions get less detailed and passionate, and the album loses a bit of steam. Half of this is absolutely stunning, the other half a bit more uneventful.

Quick thoughts on the listenalongs I missed cause can't be bothered to dig for the last version of the charts:

>M. Sage - Rife w/ typo

I can agree with what Rodriguez wrote in regards to this being similar to Replica, but I feel like the repetition on this one is a bit obnoxious. Some of the tracks land in a very gorgeous zone (Biomorph was reminiscent of Four Tet), but overall it was mostly just ok.

6/10

>Prince of Denmark - To The Fifty Engineers

Now that's some shit I like. Minimal techno with some great atmospherics. Short, yet memorable. It reminded me of Jesper Kyd's techno tracks but not as amateurish I guess? Good.

Bathory - Blood Fire Death (1988)
>black metal, thrash metal

Somewhat underwhelming. Bathory doesn't take on this more thrash-orientated sound with the same finesse they bring to the table on their purely black metal releases. It's not even that the actual metallic sections are bad, in fact, they might even be better than anything they've done prior, but the slower, more generically rocky tracks kinda suck, and they break up the flow of the metal. There's still a lot of great metal here, you just gotta dig a bit harder to find it.

I guess. I've not listened to it in full so don't trust me on this but the main problems I had with it (which I think are the same a lot of people have) are it's length and the fact that Kamasi isn't that good to make the three hours worth your time. It would probably benefit from cutting some stuff and making the album way shorter. Then again an album doesn't need to be good to be mu core.
>>
>>73826586
yes
>>
>>73826586
Yeah, didn't have to be so long, but whatever, take what you need from it. I also think there's this backlash at the piggyback treatment it got in how it blew up and was raved about incessantly on pitchfork and other sources that normally wouldn't touch jazz as if it were some innovation because these people hadn't listened to much or any spiritual jazz.
>>
>>73823485

>>73824009

>>
>>73826716
Yeah, of course there was people claiming it was not so good after a lot of people started handing out high scores and the thing got so much exposure. I think it's only normal a lot of regular jazz fans would listen to it given you heard about it everywhere and then were disappointed, because what Kamasi does is done and presented better elsewhere.
I don't like the record, but I don't hate Kamasi or his record, just would rather not listen to it. But I think it might have helped some people with getting into spiritual jazz and that's always cool with me.

>Jake Tobin - Third and Fourth Thoughts
(6+/11)
>Hellier Ulysses - Prime Example
(6+/11)
So this is a tie in every way, both releases are the same genre and style, by artists who release on the same record label, with the same range of track lengths.
I was expecting alot more from the Jake Tobin release considering how much I like Accidentally on Purpose, and Prime Example improved much more on the consistency and production but lacked in other areas. In the end they match out for me.

>-why the rating scale?
It's not a matter of fitting things into 10's, my rating scale could increase to 12/12 if I somehow found a release that significantly overtakes my all-time favourites. I also can't squeeze the thing into 10's because each rating integer is a significant leap I can identify mentally, where the + and - indicates lower end or higher end.
>-why does everything get like a 50%?
Anything 6- or above I like, a 7- or above is something that matters as a whole to me, and the 3.0 and 3.5 ratings on my rym are almost always tied.

Good-evening /daily/, how are you all? Tried the following after getting caught up in new releases, no chart since I haven't updated anything yet (waiting to listen to QOTSA);

>Broken Social Scene - Hug of Thunder. Far more explosive in nature than their previous material though suffers perhaps as a side effect of that, certainly feels somewhat more formulaic in approach given the near continuous verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge etc. used on a lot of the tracks, still the production is at its best here and tracks like Protest Song and the opening to Mouth Guards of the Apocalypse bring more relaxed moments to a generally pulsating baroque pop album, honourable mention to Vanity Pail Kids, love that song.
>King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Murder Of The Universe. Really enjoyed the prog-styled guitar riffs on this album, don't get the hate for the spoken word which aside from the robot voice I quite enjoyed, gave it an LOTR sorta narration which added to the claustrophobic atmosphere. Disc two was certainly the best of the discs by far and The Lord of Lightning the best song, the series of Altered Beast tracks were also great in there own right though the last disc held it back in my view, can't help but love the Australian accent on this.
>Vince Staples - Summertime '06. Really enjoyed disc 2, certainly preferred the album as a whole compared to Big Fish Theory, especially the more dissonant tracks such as 3230 and Like It Is, certainly have more respect for him now, wasn't particularly fond of disc 1 however and Senorita was pretty miss for me.

Really having a hard time debating which Kyuss album is my favourite, its not often I enjoy a stoner rock band. Going to try Rated R & Songs for the Deaf later today, that'll be interesting. Oh and Lick Doo sucks.

Well done trip up, no idea how the American education system works but that sounds pretty good, enjoy your day.
