Fuck on-ear headphones. Not only do the cords begin to fray and cut out after a year, but they fuck up the top of my left ear that it aches an hour after a listening session. I can't believe I paid 100 bucks for this trash fire when I could have bought over-ear for even better isolation.

listened to two new things today

I loved For Philip Guston, though I don't know if it surpasses the SQ2, Rothko Chapel, or Clarinet and String Quartet. those works have more variety, mysticism, or compactness (for the latter two) which makes them especially enjoyable. Guston has a consistency and is fairly holistic compared to SQ2, but overall I just didn't think it was as inspired

the Orpheus album of Copland was very good. Appalachian Spring gets a good recording but the real stars are the Short Symphony, Quiet City, and Latin American Sketches. I've never been a big fan of overtly Americana music like Appalachian, Billy the Kid, etc. so these great recordings of chamber music are much appreciated.

fun fact about the Short Symphony, it was originally considered too rhythmically complex to be played by Boston Symphony.
