What does mu think on these guys?
One of the best debut albums ever
Made of stone is underrated

made of stone is one of my favorite tracks on the album desu. Didn't know it was considered underrated.
I wish they would've stuck with this sound, it's pretty interesting.

they're ok I like their debut
Definitely one of the more shitty UK bands to have that "almost became the biggest band in the world" status that an uncanny amount of UK bands bad. The production was flaccid, Madchester sucked and had one of the worst aesthetics in a popular music movement, ever.

That's Oasis mate.

i want to disagree with this but i cant

had one of the best drummer and bassist combos in alternative rock

Fools gold and I wanna be adored are good but I don't think much of their other works.
Quite dull.
Happy Mondays should have been the biggest thing to come out of Madchester. I find what they did(mixing the abrasive, shambling post-punk of The Fall with the psychedelic grooves of Funkadelic and the nascent acid house culture) to be a lot more interesting than The Stone Roses' conservative The-Smiths-by-way-of-The Beatles rock classicism.

Oasis came up far more resonant melodies than the Roses did.

Which sounds good on paper but the end result, was, you know, the Happy Mondays. The goofy dancing maraca guy joke band.
the logical conclusion to UK indie rock

happy mondays never even learned how to play their instruments though
i know a guy who was around when the madchester thing was blowing up and who saw them a whole bunch of times
on the good nights their performances would just be really stiff and rigid(which is kinda the last thing you want such a heavily funk influenced band to be)
on the bad nights they would constantly make mistakes and fall out of time with each other
it's no wonder that they ended up being one of the definitive drug culture bands of their time, since being on drugs while being at a happy mondays show was the only way you could think they sounded any good
bummed is a pretty good album though
