>People think this is complex

Learn Music Theory please.
>>
>>73765298

I have literally never heard anyone say this album is complex. Well written, but not complex. Talk to better people.
>>
Math rock is inherently complex.
>>
>>73765559

I see people on /mu/ say it's complex all the time lmao
>>
Music theory is just what it says, a theory. It was never been proven
>>
It certainly is in terms of how cohesive everything sounds even though everyone's usually playing syncopated stuff relative to each other's parts. Most rock music will have everyone play similar stuff rhythmically around the same time as each other, with only stuff that also specifically plays parts syncopated from each other in odd time sigs like album even coming close. For classical music only really maybe stuff like string quartets have to deal with more complex stuff based on whose work is being played, orchestrated stuff has a lot of other people also playing similar stuff while soloists don't have to worry about this at all, and all of it regardless has a conductor that eases the process as well. In jazz only the free jazz guys have to worry about it as there's usually some kind of idk a piano or a guitar that would otherwise play chords that make the process much easier.
>>
>>73765900
you are fucken retarded lol
>>
>>73765654
I see people on /mu/ say music is stupid.

That's not a demographic of people you should invest your time in.
>>
>>73765298

It is objectively complex

There's a bar I frequent where Good Morning Captain is one of the most played songs on the internet jukebox. None of them by me, I just play Ween songs
>>
>>73766050
Are you being serious? Is this level of ignorance even possible?
>>
Snob. lol
>>
>>73766473
It's the truth, my man. Sounds like you have never actually played with others in a variety of settings. Stop being such a loser.
>>
>>73766496
I know you're being a weakass troll, but if by chance you truly think that """"""syncopated"""""" rocknroll can hold a candle to academic music or even 40s and 50s jazz then you're a fucking deluded dilletante and will remain one for the rest of your life.
>>
>>73766050

hahahahahh holy shit
>>
Spiderland is a majestic album, sublime and strange, made more brilliant by its simplicity and quiet grace. Songs evolve and expand from simple statements that are inverted and truncated in a manner that seems spontaneous, but is so precise and emphatic that it must be intuitive or orchestrated or both.

Spiderland is flawless. The dry, unembellished recording is so revealing it sometimes feels like eavesdropping. The crystalline guitar of Brian McMahan and the glassy, fluid guitar of David Pajo seem to hover in space directly past the listener’s nose. The incredibly precise-yet-instinctive drumming has the same range and wallop it would in your living room.
>>
>>73766626
>seems
>feels
>seem
theres a reason nobody ever analyzes this album with objective metrics, its simply trash
>>
OP is an elitist faggot who can't enjoy music becouse muh complexity.

Learn to be happy please.
>>
>>73766675
Not everything is analyzed by metrics you fucking dumbass, music is not a fucking science.

>>73766626
This is absolutely valid.
>>
>>73765298
maybe it isn't necessarily complex from a melodic standpoint but the fucking time signatures, man. even in breadcrumb trail the time signature switches like 9-10 times
>>
>>73766421
>Ween
>Slint
>At bar

Autists' Inn
>>
>>73765298
Reminder that music theory ruins music appreciation.
>>
>>73766776
ween is super well known dude
>>
>>73766538
It certainly does in that particular regard. Hell, I very clearly explained why as well. Just sounds like you can't read and then decided to write "durrr you so stupid how dare you say rock music can be above academic/jazz in any way at all?"
>>
>>73766776
Primus too.
It's a chill ass bar
>>
>>73766738
>crystalline guitar
>glassy, fluid guitar
you have to realize that doesnt mean shit you underaged samefag
there is precise analytical music terminology you can use, what do you think music students do? talk about how an album feels?
>>
>>73766846
You must be fucking sad if you think "music metrics" it's the only and correct way to analyze music. And you must be a complete retard if you think "music students" only study that.

kys asap.
>>
this thread is cancerous as fuck
>>
>>73766626
No. It's a few teenagers making an album. Throw in spoken word lyrics, a whammy pedal, and some sloppy jazz rolls and there you have it.
>>
>>73766885
the state of /mu/
>the albums good because i feel like it is
wow mate
>>
>>73767130
Your reading comprehension is absolutely dreadful.

Kys
>>
>>73765298
When is the last time you heard a rock album make any use of dynamics besides the 'acoustic interlude'?
>>
this album sucks dick
too many theory mistakes
>>
>>73765298
Yeah it's nothing overtly complex, but you have to admit that it's alot more technically complex than it's counterparts (not to mention setting a gold standard of songwriting that was followed by post-hardcore bands to come).
>>
>>73767130
you're what's wrong with mu you blind retard. music isn't only about technical nonsense. there's plenty of talented nobodies with no creative thoughts in their head or their music. music is art and no one wants listen to over saturated horse shit
>>
and?
>>
>>73767241
Elaborate.

That track's a fuck ton simpler than anything of Spiderland in terms of rhythm, what the fuck are you smoking?
>>
>>73766421
Which era of Ween? The really good stuff like White Pepper or the shitty stuff like Pure Guava?
>>
fuck you I never said this is complex dipshit

What if I do you piece of shit, are you gonna stop me or tell me that your taste is better than mine because that'd just prove everyone shitting on OP's album right, you fucking fuck, I want you to die so bad

Spiderland is great. We should definitely ban the Radiohead/Kanye/Kendrick threads because they are the only things attracting the summerfags here.

I did though. Especially in terms of complexity, the subject of this thread. Those four dudes struck gold with that one album they played together.
