Was Pete Best a shitty drummer?
Nope

Not really, he just wasn't very reliable as a band member and George Martin hated him.
Yes. Do you think management would have been cool with kicking the best looking member out if he was at all good?
Also, he wasn't into the new style / image they were going forward with. He didn't have the taste or instincts to sense the future, would have kept them stuck in the 50s/early 60s.

Jimmie is underrated desu
Yeah, he was pretty bad. He just didn't have the kind of natural groove that Ringo always brought to the songs.
Here's Pete playing in a controlled studio setting.

And here's Ringo in a hectic live one.

similarly, this shows how Paul could sing circles around John.

Pete became very depressed after The Beatles became a massive success, and even attempted suicide. He remained pretty salty over the years over his treatment with being fired and how the remaining members would barely acknowledged him or mock his drumming. He did I guess get over it since he realized there was nothing he could do about it and didn't want to be bitter his whole life.
>>73743711
He looks like AVGN's boyfriend
>>73744926
Yeah, there's no weight or propulsion to his drumming there either. Like it's just barely, lightly tapping along at the sides without providing an anchor. Sounding as if it might just float away. Literally "light-weight" drumming.
Whereas, as you say, Ringo provides a strong groove right down the center holding it all together.
One can't help feel bad for Pete but The Beatles were completely in their rights to let him go. You don't let art suffer just to be polite. Everyone has to step up.

I like to compare the Decca audition of Besame Mucho to the version from the Star Club tapes after Ringo joined
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=En4Dk4zQn-M
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2z9LrNxCvVk
even with the shit recording quality it sounds so much better.
Plus, Pete never clicked with the group personally the way Ringo did. He doesn't seem like a bad guy and it sucks that he's basically a big joke in music history, but it really wasn't meant to be.

Ringo's drumming was fucking great during the whole Washington set.
>>73744926
irrefutable proof that ringo was a great drummer

this is amazing, thank you
>>73744926
Is it just me or does that performance of Long Tall Sally feel kind of proto-punky? Especially near the end.
>>73746006
The studio version has a lot of that too.

In between all the memes I just wanna say Best did put out a legitimately good album in 2006. Not great but it's as good as anything McCartney or Starr have put out this decade.

That cover is so cringy tho, we get it Pete, you were in the beatles, fuck off

That's a promotional sticker. Just downloaded the first thing I could find on rym.
Also, the surviving Quarrymen are still active. Can't comment on the quality of their albums tho, they're not on spotify or slsk.

They reformed in 1997 according to wikipedia.
>>73748616
did he call it the best of the beatles because he was trying to be satirical or something?
>>73748740
Its because he wanted to cash in like the cunt he is
>>73748740
what are you talking about anon, Best is his name and he was a former member of The Beatles. There is absolutely nothing misleading about that album.
>>73748797
oooooh it's like wordplay.
I read like he was saying "THE Best of the Beatles" as if he was releasing some greatest hits album that didn't even have beatles songs on it
>>73748616
I like how there's a circle around him lmao

They would've just be some generic "garage rock turned psych" from the 60's
>stu
they would've gone even more avant garde than their most extreme efforts, you're onto something
