Kanye is better than Jay Z in almost every aspect.

Kanye's stuff is more fun to listen to, but I feel like Jay Z carries more intellectual value, especially for a dumb ass teenager who needs to learn basic shit such as the value of investing and amassing wealth. As far as actual rap skill goes too, Jay Z is a far better lyricist and he definitely has superior flow and enunciation, but the stuff he talks about again, is rather basic material for an adult. Thus, it easier to find yourself getting bored when listening to Jay Z than it is to Kanye.

So, from my standpoint, since I'm old enough to not need basic life lessons in my music, I gotta go with Kanye.

Jay-Z is better technically, pretty much hands down. His flow is iconic, and his lyricism is up there with the best. However, he only focuses on his lyrics and couldn't care less about what the beat is, as long as each album has one or two bangers.

Kanye is concerned with the entire sound of the record, which is what sets him apart. While he may not have raps as complex as Jay-Z, his flow works well and he gets his point across, and oftentimes his point is deeper than whatever Jay-Z is bragging about, and honestly, I think Kanye's lyricism from 2009-2012 was up there with the best.

To sum up: Jay-Z is more talented with the technical parts of rap--the rhyme scheme, the flow, the delivery--but he always sticks to what he knows because
A) it puts his money at risk
B) he might not have the ambition or even ambitious thoughts in the first place.

Kanye, on the other hand, is extremely ambitious. Kanye is probably the Bowie of rap, with how he's drastically changed hip-hop with every album, and how he changed the direction of music in general with Graduation and 808s.

Hip-hop heads will say Jay is better, but those whose musical interests venture beyond the genre will say Kanye is better. I pick Kanye, personally, but I like Jay a lot too.

Kanye has weaker studio albums but Jay Zs albums wouldn't be anywhere near as good without Yeezys production.

I guess he would still have Bink and Just Blaze though. And he's the only one that would have a 10/10 album of the two.
