Hey guys Ia m starting out and I am trying to decide between Ableton and pro tools.

Also wat program would u recommend me for mixing and mastering?
>>
>>73721308
jfc are you drunk

ableton if it's electronic or midi based

pro tools for live instruments
>>
If you wanna do more electronic stuff and do live performances then get Ableton. Also just learn how to mix and master with your stock plugins first. Learn as much as you can about mixing and mastering first before you buy
>>
>>73721378
this post was meant to be a reply to >>73721308
but im fucking retarded
>>
>>73721370
>reaper for live instruments
fixed
protools is a meme at this point
>>
>>73721442
yeah reaper is fine if you don't ever plan to work professionally for anybody

there's no reason to not just learn the more common daw if it suits your needs and money isn't an issue

Hey giys i want to get into rwcording my guitar and i ak looking to invest in a pc. What should i be looking for? Does a laptop have any benefits? Thanks in advance.
>>
>>73721529
>if you don't ever plan to work professionally for anybody
why?
because its the more common as you said?
fuck how can such an oldfashioned daw still be the standard one
>>
https://clyp.it/sw1fwq5d

>>73721636
cuz flum xD
>>
>>73721636
easy to make and sounds reasonably decent usually....

>>73721647
why do i feel like you're the first guy and this is an attempt at trolling.......

>>73721673
yes because it's that common and it's expected that you can work with it

it caught on and just became the standard. that's it. supposedly the comping tools in it are the best for live stuff so it makes sense

desu i think with the rise of bedroom producers and increasing numbers of kids that don't use it things will change... or it will at least be not assumed that you can work with it

>>73721707
i like a lot of your sounds but i don't like the song lol... nothing was catchy melodically or rhythmically

don't like the kick. i suggest adding movement to the hats with some automation to that delay/chorus or whatever you're using
>>
my rendered and frozen stuff is glitching like it would playing in real time
life is hopeless
>>

found its due to automation of fx on/off

surprisingly low interest into production, expected /mu/ to have more, or is this the wrong board?

anybody doing full orchestral only stuff here?

i want to go for the caladan brood type of shit but have no idea where to start.
i plan to use guitar rig 5 for guitar so i basically need a vst for everything else.
also whats the easiest way to go around drums its easily the scariest and most off putting thing i can think about.

what having an expensive preamp between the mic and the interface does to the recorded sound
>>
>>73724031

Frankly, nothing much. Your preamp will only improve the signal quality up until the point it reaches the sound card, and the sound card or interface always produces the most additional noise.
>>
>>73722087
>>73722115
lol'd @ you

depends if you can bypass the interface pres or not. i'm assuming you cannot since you're asking this question- don't bother

>>73724234
>the sound card or interface always produces the most additional noise.

that's only if you're using low tier shit that you can't bypass
>>
>>73724295
>depends if you can bypass the interface pres or not. i'm assuming you cannot since you're asking this question- don't bother
i dont have an interface at all lol just wondering if preamps change the sound besides boosting some frequencies
>>
>>73724429
>besides boosting some frequencies

it's more complicated than that. you can't take something from a low end pre and boost/cut to match a high end one to make it sound the same (you can't boost what isn't there (detail))

newbie here. Is there anyway to play a guitar directly through my computer using a p10 to p2 cable? I tried it and got nothing
>>
>>73722617
I use Pro Tools for mixing and mastering, but I also work at a recording studio so it's pretty essential for me to use Pro Tools. It's expensive and tough to find a torrent for (depending on which OS you use). I would suggest just torrenting ableton and seeing if it works for you. Also, Pro Tools has a limited free version called Pro Tools First you can check out to see if you like it.
>>
>>73724548
ah so its like a cheap pre will decrease the sound quality
and interfaces' soundprocessing part are pres. so when using a good pre you turn the interface's pre off
and there will be no quality decrease caused by the cheap interface because only the pre can do that

What do you think? I quite like it so far but I may have shit taste.
>>
>>73725168
I'm not him but what you would want is an interface that has a line-in. You would go out of the line-out of your preamp, into the line-in of your interface, which would bypass the preamps of the interface. Going out of a preamp into another preamp won't sound great, even if they're both high end preamps. But yeah the fact that it's a cheapo interface preamp is even worse.

The quality will still be affected by the digital conversion of the interface, which won't be as good as a higher end interface. But that sound difference is less noticeable than the difference between good and bad preamps.

the melody is pretty awful, and personally I'm not a fan of the chord progression, especially the jump from the low A to the high G. I think learning a little bit of music theory would really help you out a lot instead of just trying to sound it out

>>
I play guitar and want to make my own backing tracks/vamps and I have Ableton Live, but haven't learned how to use it yet. I messed around with FL Studio a long time ago and was always put off but not being able to get a drum kit that sounded like real drums, they were all to synth-y. Before I commit the time to learn Ableton, will I be able to produce tracks that sound close to real instruments? Do I have to find samples of drums to get this?
>>
>>73728489
Superior Drummer, Kontakt drums
>>
>>73728502
Cool, thanks.
So if I add bass guitar and maybe keyboard to make a track, I'd use one of those then import a sound file into Ableton?
>>
>>73728596
it's a virtual instrument that you control with MIDI either by using a MIDI keyboard or by manually writing in MIDI with your mouse. The plugins also have preset rhythms so that you can drag and drop the MIDI information for the rhythm onto the track
>>
>>73728664
But it runs seperately, it's not like an add-on drum kit that loads inside Ableton, right?
If that's right then I was asking if first making the drum track with either of those, saving and importing that as a sound file into Ableton, then layering the bass and/or keyboards is the right way to do it.

I am looking for some companies that make good commercial sample packs which are easy to find on public torrent trackers. I am mainly into house and techno music.

I tried pic related based on a suggestion from a previous thread but my issue is that there were too many ready made loops and sound effects and not enough one-shot drum samples. Only ended up keeping like 10% of the 3.5 odd gigs that I downloaded.

kiketools is better for recording and comping multiple takes which benefits a lot of vocalists and musicians.

>>73721308
if you like composing midi then get ableton. if you sing and play an instrument and you splice a lot of audio tracks then get kiketools. if you want something in between then get cubace.

either way they are all great DAWs because you dont have to switch computer platforms. if you pirate then just get both and try them out for yourselves.

personally i use ableton.

Honestly dude I feel like I learned everything I know about production from the Bad Rats OST

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJnRBxEONAA

Why does no one ever talk about what a masterpiece this is? Before we continue: I am entirely serious.

The Bad Rats OST has something for everyone, with its influences drawing heavenly from folk, traditional jazz, funk, to modern AND classical rock music, and even prog. If none of that appeals to you, the sheer quality of the performance of those involved and the muses and melodies included in this 21 minute masterpiece will leave you speechless.

Packing such a myriad of emotions into a 21:00 minute run time while simultaneously blending so many genres is nothing to sneeze at.

I have never had a musical experience bring me to the range of highs and lows that this album has brought to me. I challenge you to give this a listen and tell me it didn't change everything you thought you knew about music as a whole.
