I don't have an ultimate favorite, but I'll go with the album that most recently became a part of my favorites, Pet Sounds.

Trout Mask Replica is one of my favorite albums too.

I'm OP and my parents wanted me to go there but LA has better weather and is in a really nice area. Is Berkeley really that great? I just got the feel that it was too competitive and too political.

my brother transferred from there because he hated everything about it. the weather, students, stress etc.

Eh, I'm a (intended) Computer Science major and it hasn't been too rough academically. Granted, I'm working harder than ever before. Don't get me wrong. But, I was still expecting even worse.
Everyone I've met is willing to help ya out. I'm surprised by how less "cutthroat" university has been. (It may be a different experience for others though.) Also, I just finished freshman year, so perhaps it gets worse from here, but I'm remaining hopeful. :^)
As for the political atmosphere here, sure, it's a politically charged campus to say the least. For instance, you'll have incidents such as this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmlZcBCpIVc
^I was there to see it happen actually. There have been other ridiculous incidents such as Sather Gate being blocked by a group of students who only allowed "POC" students through. Of course, there was the riot following the Milo event back in February too. I won't even get started on that. That's a separate discussion on its own.
Anyways, my classes mostly don't deal with anything that can be easily politicized, which has been comfy. I'm honestly probably more conservative than most students I meet, but the campus environment still hasn't bugged me much. If you're looking into the Arts and Humanities rather than STEM though, then yeah, the politics will be more so insufferable.
Overall though, I'm enjoying Cal more than I expected honestly. I'd encourage anyone interested to definitely look into the school. So, yup. I'll just stop there. I've already typed out too much. :^)

friend of a friend of mine goes to Berkeley for computer engineering. He says the weather is nice and the education is excellent.

Thanks for the insight. There are definitely 'big' differences but on the grand scheme of things they seem very similar. My gf lives in SF so I never get to see her but I'll stay here. It's really comfy and relaxed. It's not that I'm some hardcore conservative but as a college student dealing with social politics just seems so aggravating when I really just want to get my work done and have fun with friends in my free time.

Yup, I feel the same and I've met a considerable amount of other students who feel that way as well. Ah well.

Yeah, I mean I understand why people would want to be politically active but I feel like too often they don't respect others that don't want to be because they feel like we have an obligation to also be politically active. As a poor student, I worked hard to even go to college so that really isn't on my radar during the day.

Actually serious question, I'm gonna be a freshman at drexel next fall, but my family is moving to San Francisco next spring. I don't want to be on the opposite coast all the time and itd be nice to get in state tuition at a uc school. Does anyone have experience with transferring? Do you regret doing it?
>>73700032
OP here. It won't be hard to get in-state at all since your parents are the ones moving. They'll have to live here for a year and one day (366 days) prior to the start of classes though. I've never transferred so I can't really give you much help with that. The schools' websites should help. However, my brother transferred from Cornell to here at LA and didn't really have a hard time and certainly did not regret it. Is there anything specific you're looking for in a school?

How can you do an MPhil if you don't have a BPhil? Or is it inclusive?
