Is this album suppose to grow on you? I've listened to it once and my first reaction is some songs are good and some are meh, but it's being praised on here as near perfect. Although this was how I felt the first time I listened to Madvillainy so maybe I take awhile to appreciate something???

no its just the odd future fans who worship fantano dick riding the next big thing before normies like it.
its a 6/10 for me.

that's sorta how i'm feeling anon

Yea my first listen i felt very meh about it. I continued to listen to it though and each time I've appreciated it more and more. I only really liked CASH when i first listened to it but now consider the majority of the album to be exceptional. HEAT, GOLD, STAR, the first three songs are incredible hits. Then there's FAKE, BUMP, and CASH which I also really like. Now that I've given it a few more listens I think this album is incredible and probably gonna be one of the best hip hop releases for the rest of the year

Also you should check out the videos on their channel. The videos really got me into the music more desu

BUMP is the only song I really fully enjoyed, I stopped the album and went back and listened to it.

Yea thats how I felt about CASH at first, only song that I really liked. I can't really explain it but the album just kept growing on me. Ameer Van and Dom Mclennon always drop really good verses, the production is great, and theres great diversity throughout the album. There's really hard tracks, there's funny tracks, sing songy stuff, vibe-y tracks, I dunno I just feel like they hit a lot of different types of music really well.

to me it had some really great moments and some i couldn't really get behind. the singles were really all that appealed to me + a few others
>>73684935
Yea actually that's how I kind of feel. I really like half the album because it's just really good hip hop, but I also appreciate the other styles of music they explore. I feel like there's something for everyone in the album
>>73684723
It's the opposite for me, it got worse with every listen leading up to me just deleting it
>>73684969
>I feel like there's something for everyone in the album
Sorta part of the problem, they do a lot of genres not very well but hip hop extremely well. They should just stick to hip hop
>>73685014
I honestly don't understand why it is being praised so much
>>73685149
I feel this

People want a new Odd Future p much. Some good songs tho
>>73684723
I feel you OP; this thing is just ok with me
>tfw pitchfork is actually correct
>>73684723
The album starts and ends really well, there's a chemistry between the group members that's very enjoyable to listen to for me, they switch up their sound many times (I mean check out how different HEAT is from, say, FACE) which is more than can be said for most rappers, sure it's not perfect but it's a hell of a lot better than whatever project Young Thug or Future is currently shitting out.
I couldn't into this album for a long time, it was too dissimilar to Return. Now I think it's even better than the aforementioned, because while it may not have any smash tracks like Shimmy Shimmy Ya or Brooklyn Zoo, its average is much higher, and it's got more variety than almost any album I've ever heard.

this 6/10 for me
Who is that rapper that is actually supposed to be good?
I get that Abstract is the interesting one and Merlyn with the crazy ODB but who is the skilled one? The Earl or the GZA?
