I wouldn't even know where to start.

It's not like you have bad taste. Your taste is quite good, actually, but it's like you auto-exclude the obvious choices because they're obvious. Like, you like Belong but neither MBV, Ride, nor Slowdive even make your Top 50?

Come on.
>>
>>73685162
Belong is not really the same sort of album as the shoegaze classics though, particularly October Language which is almost more akin to ambient

The only reason Loveless, Isn’t Anything, Nowhere, and Souvlaki don’t appear in my chart is because they aren’t in my top fifty favorite albums. They’re good, obviously, but I can only fit fifty on the chart

I was gonna say the same thing, but there are lots of short ones, and it wouldn't have to be a top 50 out of many more
>>
>>73694509
I'm mainly concentrating on a massive writing project at the moment, but, like Infinite Jest has its list of films, I've enjoyed creating conceptual compositions for it, appreciating music to a large extent by way of my literary sensibility. My new boyfriend is a musician, so hopefully he'll drag me into the deep end, as it'd be great for catharsis, at the very least.
My problem with Black Origami was similar to my problem with Laurel Halo's post-Quarantine work, that the former looms so large in its sheer weirdness, subsequently abandoned in favour of complexity.
>>
>>73694509
I've mentioned this a lot in threads before, but what I like about Holly Herndon, what makes her my favourite musician at the moment, is how goshdarn beautiful her voice is, how poignantly she emotes, the contrast of the human element with the synthetic, which she really knows how to use to her advantage.
>>
>>73694643
Very nice. One word at a time. Ulysses certainly wasn't written in a day, and neither was the Recognitions.

If you want to really dive into music, you should get a Discogs account and explore. You can be so specific that you can pull up what came out on LP only in 1974 and is tagged with Rhythmic Noise. You can find just about anything doing that shit, but the site's users are anus at figuring out genres so you don't find as much as youd wish sometimes

Everything about Black Origami compared to Jlin's debut feels more mature. It's definitely weird still, but just more confident IMO

—Thanks, man, I'll be sure to. Could you recommend me some stuff with poignant vocal samples like the one here?
https://youtu.be/tQUmi6YXOU8?t=43s
(Geddit, 'cos both Ulysses and The Recognitions use em dashes?)
>>
>>73694977
I love em's because of Joyce and Gaddis

I'm not tooooo into stuff that manipulates vocals, so the only thing that immediatwly comes to mind is Death Grips' niggas on the moon with its cut-up Bjork vocals all over it. I know I know other stuff, but just cannot place a name anywhere

Sorry :( don't know much on your chart tho

>>73694289
Oh yeah I remember that! Thread 404'd before I could respond, but honestly that's kinda hard. He's in a world of his own - his crazy vocal delivery and heavy, bassy beats are really hard to find similar music to. As far as other crazy voices, Busdriver is definitely the way to go. He's one of Z's favorite rappers, and has some crazy vocal delivery and beats. But not really in the same way as Zeroh.
https://busdriver-thumbs.bandcamp.com/track/hottentot-supercluster-feat-zeroh-kaveh-rastegar-prod-by-fumitake-tamura
Zeroh also has an album with Jeremiah Jae, who has a great voice.
https://horez.bandcamp.com/track/soy-cheese
Don't really know anything else that sounds that much like him :( sorry. If I ever find anything, I'll try and find you and tell you ;)

Also, nice chart. PC Music, DJ Shadow, Holly Herndon, Clarence Clarity are all great
>>
>>73695150
That's fair, no worries.
Sorry for bugging you, but how about just some really weird, unique, optionally futuristic things, like Quarantine and Dark Energy, or like that Bee Mask record, which has this humid, dripping, greenhouse-y sound1?

1^2Not the sound itself, but, rather, the sonic idiosyncrasy
2I used to use endnotes to feel close to the Wallace of The Pale King, his humanist mission, accepting his flaws, but the Internet has ruined them for me
>>
>>73695334
Ooh, listening to A Cold Night right now and really digging it, thanks!
>>
Pls help me find more music to love
>>
>>73694218
first album? cover looks dope
>>
>>73695512
brand new - the devil and god are raging inside me
>>
>>73695350
Hmmmm

I've been digging on Nico's last ever live performance up on bandcamp as Fata Morgana. That has a "wow creepy future goth music from 1988" vibe to me. Jel - Late Pass, Ex Eye - s/t, Freddie Hubbard - Sing Me a Song of Songmy, also Harry Partch - Delusion of the Fury feels like future music too
>>
>>73695546
Much obliged!
Going by that Partch rec, have you heard much spectral music? Kaija Saariaho's Maa? Horatiu Radulescu's Clepsydra?
>>
>>73679464
you're an odd one if you like terrapin station better than american beauty
>>
>>73695546
Okay, there is a song called "Threnody for Sharon Tate," colour me very much intrigued!
>>
>>73695600
Not at ALL. Added to my list now tho
>>
>>73691887

Hey, >>73691387 here.

It's the Doors album I listened to the most as a kid and so I've always had a soft spot for it. I adore their self-titled as much as the next person, but god damn do I love Blue Sunday.

>>73694289

Thanks for the rec! By the way, even though you didn't recommend it to me, I really like Ghost of Love. Inland Empire 4ever.
>>
>>73694289
Thanks for the game theory, good stuff

I really only listed albums that mean something to me. I tried to keep it one per artist. After these it just becomes albums I listen to repeatedly, but no albums I love.

still very new to music so i didnt have anything to really stick below

Listening to Blue Sunday now. My cousin really likes Morrison Hotel and he seems to always have picks from artists like that such as Saint Dominic's Preview from Van Morrison, some weird shit from Popol Vuh so I was interested in confirming his suspicion with your placement of it. Anyway it's a special track. It's a lot like Crystal Ship. Always felt Morrison had an assload of talent that actually didn't come to fruition because he was busy raping women.

seriously I guess I'm just bad at finding music or remembering it or something... Here's something, I guess, sorry it's not consistent at all - last 2 rows are all over the place.

Still looking for recs tho...

>>73699891
Why is exmillitary so good? I want to listen to it, soon, promise.

>>73698066
Have you listened to Donovan's Fairytale?

Rap suggestion maybe try

>Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory

I'm not sure what else would fit you, maybe some Weeknd but that's not exactly "rap"

I haven't listened to a whole lot off your chart, if you can maybe just define your taste a little I can maybe rec some more but this thread will probably be dead soon
>>
>>73701534
Thanks. A lot of bluesrock and psychedelic stuff, shit that sounds like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VvoqOFVgaA

But I'm also trying to get into EDM which is hard because it seems every time I encounter a nice artist, they don't put out albums, all I can find are shitty EPs and collab stuff. Artists I like are Worakls, N'to and Pleasurekraft.

>>
>>73701699
fuck i swear to god I've heard rap that sounds similar to this, if my friend was around he would probably have some good recs

To Pimp A Butterfly, and maybe some flying lotus in general as well.

cool song btw
>>
>>73701945
Oh btw, the album Idlewild by Outkast is one I always forget about, but it's my favorite by them because it marries rap and blues. That's why I like Jurassic 5 too.

Thanks for recs once again. Haven't listened to Flying Lotus in a while but maybe I'll give them a try.
