Let's talk about New Wave, one of the most patrician commercial pop genres ever
Post some of your favorites!

I've devled into new-wave, some of my favorites are split enz, xtc, and Gary numan
>>73675566
>Gary numan
i'm not sure he's qualified as new wave for about 30 years.
Opinions on this?
One of the best new wave releases, imo - as you'd expect from musicians who worked studio sessions for Frank Zappa

oh, and I forgot to mention how mind blowing hot Dale Bozzio was

Nice trips but you what now? Early GN was quintessential new wave.
I don't think I have ever seen Eurythmics discussed here, and I don't understand why

i agree (esp. pleasure principle/are friends electric era), and I probably gave too wide a breadth. IMO by metal rhythm it was delving into the "what the hell is this" category and it didn't really get better into Exile which had definitely gone beyond new wave at that point

Marc Almond is patrician as fuck, have you heard his other projects?
Or the Tainted Love cover he collaborated with Coil on?
And how could you miss the opportunity to post the uncensored video for that song?

And speaking of great sexy nsfw videos, check out Duran Duran - The Chauffeur (such a great track, def my favorite from them and the video looks like something Lady Gaga would do 25 years later and feature Billy Idol's wifes tits)

It almost has a shoegaze type drone to it, can't even describe how much I love that track

The Chauffer is an amazing track. Check out Deftone's version of it if you haven't. Duran was denigrated as a band full of pretty boys, but I've always maintained they were a really solid middleweight new wave/rock band.

Fair enough, good point.
>>73676556
I was a huge Duran Duran fan in middle school, and still have a soft spot for them even though their momrock core reputation is pretty fairly earned for the most part.
Girls On Film is another great song and video, they really did do alot of groundbreaking music videos.
Or this one, cheesy as fuck, but dear to me for some reason I can't explain (except maybe it sounds like a poppy William S Burroughs):

Does this count as new wave?

What should I listen to if I like this?

nice.
Of course Joey Shithead hated new wave, it came out of the punk explosion, but went in as far different direction as possible from how he interpreted punk. But even commercialized as it was, new wave remained pretty dark and had anti-commercial, and left wing political messages in line with punks just delivered in a very different way.
Thematically, this ain't that different from Fucked Up Ronnie or World War Three, for instance:

See, I'm old enough now to realize I can love both punk and new wave. It wasn't always that way, in my teens I was PUNK AS FUCK (saw DOA quite a few times back then. living in Seattle) and wouldn't listen to much else but now I don't need to so rigorously define myself
Actually, even then I remeber getting shit from some gutter punk buddies for my DEVO shirt instaed of Grimple or Varukers or Dirt or whatever they were sporting. They also called me 'art fag' all the time for having a Bauhaus logo painted on my spiked leather jacket, right under the Black Flag bars. Fuck 'em

Man I wish there were more videos like this made nowadays
Goat New Wave album
>>73677157
Eh, it's a great album, but a little too polished and poppy I'd say to be considered "new wave".
The Hurting, on the other hand, is a new wave masterpiece.
who /deadoralive/ here?
>>73677157
to me this record transcends New Wave and is one of my favorite albums of all time, at the very least in pop music of the 1980s.

I liked it when they would do bluesy stuff with the synths. Or when they had this guy on sax I was just watching this clip the other day...

(harmonica in that video but also sax on some songs)
I'm listening to talk talk's first album, this is very sweet
