I know there is a plurality of right-leaning Metalheads on /mu/, so I made this handy chart for those uninitiated seeking out Metal for the cause worth listening to.

To sort things into categories.

Black Metal:
- M8L8TH: Russian/Ukrainian Black Metal with a distinct folksy RAC influence. Their latest album has a wonderful blend of clean and harsh vocals.
- Nachtgeblüt: Argentinian Black Metal/Neoclassical crossover project of Eviigne. Previous albums had some classical pieces metallicized, but "Dying Echos of a Past Forlorn" highlights Eviigne's talents as a musician.
- Campo de Mayo: Another project of Eviigne. The music here is much harsher and more direct with fiercely anti-communist lyrics and songs glorifying the regime of Jorge Rafael Videla, infamous for putting communist dissidents on death flights.
- Kristallnacht: Their entire discography on one album. Raw French Black Metal with plenty of harsh tremolo picked lines. Pretty standard.
- Dub Buk: Highly folksy Ukrainian Black Metal with foot-stomping riffs, gang shouts and flutes.
- Grand Belial's Key: A US NS Black Metal classic. Not only one of the most intentionally hilarious Black Metal bands, but also one of the most intentionally hilarious NS Black Metal bands. Anti-Judeo-Christian lyrics with plenty of potshots at Jews and Jesus.
- Fanisk: Another US NS Black Metal classic. Epic keyboard-driven passages and walls of tremolo craft a fantastic atmosphere transporting you to somewhere beyond space and time.

>>
Black Metal (cont.)
- Absurd: All their classic tunes rerecorded for a new generation. Those who found their earlier work childish, raw and amateurish will appreciate the dedication from the new band to polish the old tunes into something quite powerful.
- Der Stürmer: Harsh Greek NS Black Metal with members active in Golden Dawn. Plenty of fast, furious, tremolo-picked power chords and feral shouts.
- Veles: Polish NS Black Metal classic.
- Graveland: Another Polish NS Black Metal classic. Slow, epic passages crafting an atmosphere of Viking warriors charging into battle with lyrics influenced by Ron McVan
- Temnozor: Russian Folk/Black Metal crossover. Pagan lyrics and epic passages with clean and harsh vocals.
- Pantheon: USNSBM concept album. Much of their discography sucks, but they struck gold once with this concept album.
- Spear of Longinus: Australian NS Black Metal with a distinct old school influence. Hellhammer and Celtic Frost fans will enjoy this. Loads of lyrics of Nazi mysticism and Hinduism.
- Genocide: Thrashy Chilean Black Metal.

Death Metal:
- Arghoslent: American Death Metal with thrashy heavy riffs similar to those of Manilla Road. Loads of lyrics about slavery, conquest and, of course, the Holocaust.
- Berserkr: American Death'n'Roll/Groove Metal with incredible production values. Fans of Entombed, '90s Sepultura and Pantera will enjoy this.
- Vaginal Jesus: Hilarious Grindcore with a Seth Putnam connection; hilarious lyrics and nasty riffs abound. The guitarist went on to form a solo-project called Mudoven.
>>
Thrash Metal:
- The Raunchous Brothers: if The Mentors discovered Teutonic Thrash, they'd be The Raunchous Brothers. "Faggot Bolshevik" alone is quite a statement.
- Mudoven: if the Cro-Mags were racist, they'd be Mudoven. Solo-project of Vaginal Jesus guitarist Jim Crow, a purported veteran in Massachusetts hardcore underground. "Back to Africa" and "Green God" are classics.
- Bound For Glory: American RAC legends who fully underwent metalmorphosis on "The Fight Goes On." Every album after is just as great, but the songs here rule. "We've Got Your Number," "Doctor Marten Dental Plan," "Our Voice Is Stronger" and "Welcome" are testaments to the band's fury.
- Death's Head: Australian Thrash Metal with a distinct Hardcore influence. Perfect for moshing.
- Durandal: Slayer fans rejoice! French Thrash Metal with riffs distinctly influenced by Slayer and other American Thrash legends. The whole album is the best France has to offer.
- Frakass: The French Nationalist version of The Exploited. Moshable riffs and a great vocalist to boot.
- Ultimatum: A lesser version of Frakass. Riffs are still good, though.
- In Tyrannos: Slayer-influenced Metal project of German legend Daniel "Gigi" Giese. Loads of lyrics about the Freemasons, WWI, the Jews, 9/11 and other great topics abound.
- Iron Youth: Greek Thrash Metal. Everything else they produced is mediocre, but at least they got it right here.
- Squadron: RAC legends go Thrash here. Plenty of Hardcore-influenced riffage, but "Death Before Dishonour" will make you want to mount your horse and charge straight into battle.
- Korrozia Metalla: Vulgar Russian Thrash legends. This album is when the band started to let it slip they aren't exactly tolerant. "K.K.K" gives some obvious hints, and the anti-Arab song from the following album would solidify their political stance.
- Kolovrat: Even more explicit racist Russian Thrash. The playing here is very tight and the music has great production values to boot.

So I've been trying to get into black metal after enjoying some blackgaze-ish sort of stuff, Lantlos and Alcest especially, I enjoy a lot of the proto stuff like Bathory's early albums and Celtic Frost, however big stuff like Mayhem and Burzum aren't clicking for me at the moment. It's not that I dont enjoy them, I guess it's nothing I'm really looking for.

Any recs to help or recs like pic related? This is something I enjoyed listening to last night.

Heavy Metal:
- RaHoWa: A sore subject, but George Burdi sure tried his damndest to channel Peter Steele. This album is pure Type O Negative worship with some awesome songs and terrible songs. The best are "Man Against Time," "Hall of the Heroes," "In the Fires of 1945," "The Last Battalion" and "God Is Dead". The cover of "The Snow Fell" is great, too.
- Honor: Epic Viking Metal with plenty of charging riffs and passages similar to Manowar and Graveland. The English version is superior to the Polish version, so track that one down. For some reason, the Polish mastering is horrible.
- Fortress: Incredible Heavy Metal from down under. NWOBHM-influenced Metal with an epic heavy ballad "Southern Birth, Northern Soul"
- Warlord: NWOBHM-influenced Metal from Skrewdriver guitarist Steve "Stigger" Calladine. Anti-Islamic "Jihad Joe" will make you crack a smile and "The South Will Rise Again" will make you unfurl your Rebel Flag.
- Excalibur: Czech Metal legends. Later albums go into Death Metal territory, but the debut has epic Metallica-influenced riffs and plenty of headbanging sections in spite of the awkward English.
- Buldok: Similar to Excalibur, but much more influenced by Dokken and Manowar, making the album sound surprisingly American. The Czech songs are better, but "Mission Spandau" has this saxophone section that always makes me smile.
- Spirit of 88: Heavy/Groove Metal solo project of a German musician. Catchy riffs in spite of the awkward vocals.
- Bomber: German Motörhead-influenced Heavy Metal from drummer/vocalist Kalle. Plenty of catchy riffs and feral vocals.
- Estirpe Imperial: Spanish Metal legends with Iron Maiden-esque riffs and patriotic lyrics.
- Kontingent 88: French Heavy Metal/Hard Rock with thoughtful lyrics and epic riffs. Easily my favorite out of all these.

And yeah, to be honest, I think Kiss were just catchy simplistic hard/pop rock. They never really did anything great, just wrote catchy songs and were cool guys. Then again, if you search their whole discography, you can make 1 great mixtape of great hard rock singles.
>>
>>73675260

>>
>>73675282
Well the thing is, Kiss never really went far out of their comfort zone and just did what sold. Heck, their old stuff doesn't sound far ahead even for '70s.
And oh, it's so like Kiss to have a whole record of filler and overly recycled songs. Their later material is just "we gather up to make an album of recycled old songs for a tour"

>The word “normalization” has been thrown around a lot lately, generally in reference to the lamestream media’s attempts to be even-handed in its coverage of people who openly hate it (i.e., Donald Trump and his team). But there’s another, equally insidious means by which extreme beliefs formerly relegated to the lunatic fringe are being woven into the fabric of mainstream society. That’s right—Walmart is now selling Burzum T-shirts.

>In all fairness, the shirts are being sold through an outside seller, Rockabilia, on Walmart’s website, and aren’t actually available in Walmart stores. (Amazon also sells the exact same shirt, for the record.) Sellers on Walmart’s website are vetted, although it’s not clear how (Walmart’s site says its “verification process is proprietary and confidential”), and considering the shirt doesn’t have “THIS ARTIST HAS MADE SOME WORRYING STATEMENTS ABOUT JEWS” printed on it in bold letters, it’s possible that Walmart’s secret marketplace tribunal has no idea who the hell Burzum is and what he stands for.

>Then again, this is an Arkansas-based corporation operating in the year 2016, when the quintessentially Burzum-esque pastimes of hate crimes and church burnings are on the rise. Maybe Walmart knows exactly what it’s doing after all.

Ah it's you again. I'm not going for that argument again.
Anyway, the African part of blues is the beat, and the changes they made to melody to incorporate more dissonance and stuff. The rest—the 12 tone scale, string instruments, amplifiers—was made by white men. Moreover, metal as we know it has consistently pushed away blues, so the little of it that remains in it is much like cocaine in Coke.

While your first statement is correct, it's your conclusions are wrong. Hard rock is definely blues-based, and blues definitely shaped pop music of the past.
But metal is not hard rock. Metal has been pushing away blues since around '80s. That's why heavy metal and blues metal sound so dated and obscure in today's context. What's at the heart of most metal today—or at least black metal—is 100% Western music. No blues-exclusive stuff in it. I'm only not sure how you'd classify power chord, some guitar techniques maybe—but that's another argument.
>>
There remains a massive confusion in mainstream media, society, and culture regarding metal as a truly separate genre of music. The mainstream media and leftist-controlled academia regard metal merely as a subgenre of rock music, rather than its own distinct genre. This is of course absurd. If metal isn’t its own entirely separate genre of music then jazz, folk, country, and blues are all rock ‘n’ roll too as they can all be played with the same basic set of modern instruments. Since this topic is well-documented in Death Metal Underground’s extensive Heavy Metal FAQ, in this article I will merely layout some basic musical differences between the genres and provide a few appropriate examples to hammer it down into the brains of the ignorant.

Rock music, unlike metal, is not instrumental music for the most part. Rock music typically is arranged in strict vocal song structures like other forms of popular music. The rhythm section (rhythm guitar, bass, and percussion) is strictly rhythmic for the vocals to sing over. Keith Richards asserted that rock ‘n’ roll developed from blues musicians like Chuck Berry in the early 50s directly transposing two chord blues boogie rhythm riffs from piano to electric guitar and replacing shouted vocals with pop singing, hooks, and structure. Richards is probably right; rock riffs are typically two to three chords arranged around a static center while the blues leads are mere adornishment so the vocal melody and catchy rhythms can prevail.

Metal, even heavy metal based around riff pairs, in contrast is melodically structured instrumental music. Metal riffs are typically based around powerchords and merely repeated phrases in a longer melodic construction that is usually minor-key, modal, or chromatic. Furthermore, the tonal centers of the metal riffs in each composition (metal tracks are not vocally-based so therefore not songs) are not fixed but progress over the course of it.

Define "influence". Yes, in the past it shaped thngs that would shape other things that would shape metal. So?
So it means every writer has Shakespearean influence? Gutenberg influence? Ancient Roman influence? Every moviemaker has Lumiere influence? Yes they are important to the history of arts, but that doesn't mean their influence is direct, let alone showing in today's works.
>>
>>73676443
It seems you've already conceded that metal does have blues influence, just not in the autistic genres you like

If we take Led Zep and everything rock—undoubtedly. If we go further—there's less and less rock and more and more metal. From shred to thrash to satanic melodies to death growl, you go further and further from blues, until there's just some lingering pale shadow of its presence in songs structures or indirect influence.
Motorhead or most NWOBHM obviously had a lot of blues elements. But stuff like Death, Helloween or Immortal? Not nearly as much

I mean 'blues' as a more general term. And let's face it, it still has some part of black-pioneered genres. I just say that it doesn't matter much
>>
>>73676674
Lemmy himself said that he saw Motorhead as a bluesy band in the beginning since he and Eddie both loved blues.

Anyway with Motorhead it's perhaps hard to deny that it has rock'n'roll in its backbone, because it actually does. But try and do this with some 2nd wave BM or pagan metal. It's barely if at all present not only in guitars but in drumming too, needless to say about vocals

You can find exceptions to any rule. That's not my point to prove that metal is entirely free of any blues elements. My point is that their presence is barely noticeable. This is in response to people trying to insinuate that metal has straight up ripped off black blues musicians.

It's funny that you reply with a cover song. Thrash began with stuff like Kill 'Em All which was very obviously rock-ish, but where it went later it got less and less about rock. If we're talking about today's metal, we're so far removed from blues that going back to it sounds retro.

Yeah dude and before that they just plucked their strings and didn't even have math about it, not to mention the massive spiritual thoughts Pythagoras introduced involving music. The Sumerians were fucking each others asses before the Greeks made it cool and were fucking playing their old stupid ass instruments because they couldn't even figure out how to properly play them.
