i don't even like them but honestly not a terrible comparison. pop music isn't really in a place to manufacture another nirvana in terms of universal popularity and bringing "punk" to the mainstream again but they might be as close as it gets

People forget how massive Nirvana was when Nevermind came out. It overtook Michael Jackson on the charts as No.1. They were the most popular band at the time. Pretty much no "band" it popular anymore. The charts are filled with individual rap acts.
