+they stopped releasing music when they became irrelevant and died with dignity

-some elements have become corny over time

Yep, Velvet Underground, followed by Tom Waits (though idk how much of his persona is an act, but still).
I don't know anything about these guys outside their music, but I feel like A Silver Mt. Zion would be a pretty fuckin' cool group of people, and that Isaac Hayes would be a cool, smooth SoB as well.
