he's an underrated songwriter. people only know "DUDE, STAR SPANGLED BANNER. DUDE, HE LIT HIS GUITAR ON FIRE. DUDE, HE PLAYED GUITAR WITH HIS TEETH THAT ONE TIME. DUDE, HE PLAYED BEHIND HIS HEAD" without ever considering his songwriting talent.

People that truly appreciate Hendrix appreciate his songwriting and his knack for improvisation.

Nobody really cares about his few live recordings even though it's a really good look at his actual performing talent like nine months before he died. Such a funky album and machine gun is top tier.
