Theres an article called Hip-Hop Literature: The Politics, Poetics, and Power of Hip-Hop in the English Classroom in The English Journal, 1 May 2013, Vol.102(5).

A book called Thug Life: Race, Gender, and the Meaning of Hip-Hop by Michael Jeffries, a college professor, which focuses on the social importance and development of hip hop. Thats just through google and a quick search on my school's academic library. I can try and find more articles and books if you'd like.
