What on earth are these guys so popular for? Just wondering before diving into their music P.S. I'll give my thoughts on them afterwards.
>>
>popular

I dare you to walk up to normie scum and ask them if theyve heard of them, and then wait for their reaction after listening to their music.
>>
it's just good, fun pop music
do you think every great album has to be about death of a loved one or anne frank?
>>
>>73627314
Remember, this is the same board that thinks death grips are mainstream.
>>
>>73627314
here we go
>>
>>73627416
>pop music
can someone tell me something that isn't pop then
something that's actually listenable
because this is not the same as e.g. katy perry or bieber
>>
>>73627314
Don't start this shit, fool. My Girls has over 12 million views on YouTube and they are one of the most critically celebrated bands of the 2000's. I hear tracks from MPP on satellite radio all the time, and on my campus there are many students who enjoy them. They are definitely a popular band.
>>
>>73627645
>12 million
>popular in music
>>
>>73627304
They are super unique and fun to listen to. MPP is a bit overrated tho, wouldn't recommend starting with that.
>>
>>73627628
how entry-level is your taste if MPP is too challenging for you?
>>
>>73627645
literally no one in Sweden who has not been to /mu/ would know about them
>>
>>73627645
>12 million views for an 8 year old song
>meanwhile this is 4 months old and has 1.5 billion views
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGwWNGJdvx8
>>
>>73627752
pretty entry-level.
it's not too challenging, i can enjoy it (unlike trout mask or something)
but i wouldn't describe it as pop - except as art pop i guess
idk i feel the same way about loveless
>>
>>73627848
Listen to it a few times. After the third or fourth time you will either know you don't like it, or you'll be completely infatuated with it. Most albums posted on /mu/, even the entry level stuff, takes a few listens to appreciate. This isn't like deadmau5 or something where you can listen to some terrible 240p youtube video once and get something out of it
>>
MPP would still be alienating to most "normal" people. A lot going on, extended droning, unusual vocals, etc, etc.

Certainly not challenging for established music knobs, but definitely still way too out there for 95% of people
>>
>>73627928
Songs like Daily Routine and Brother Sport sure, but My Girls and Summertime Clothes are straight up pop tunes
>>
but what about the leak
>>
>>73627304
MPP is popular cuz it's very pretty and catchy and psychedelic.

Older stuff is popular cuz they have creative ways of approaching song structure and sound.

Sung Tongs, Feels, and Strawberry Jam are the best. Each one is unique and well written and produced
>>
>>73627989
Summertime Clothes is so catchy.
>>
>>73627928
It's challenging for 50% of people who come on here
>>
>>73627304

Animal Collective modernized psychedelic rock, OP. There's two types of psychedelic music out there: pre and post Animal Collective. I mean they have definite forerunners like Olivia Tremor Control, but they materialized new psych.

>>
>>73628476
yeah I do like it more than MPP
>>
>>73627818

god. normie music has fallen really low.
>>
>>73627818
>shitty puerto rican song has 2.2 billion views in 5 months

>>
>>73627314
fuck off. popularity is relative. no one said AnCo is loved by normies.

I know that feel anon. Luckily it just reminds me of the good memories and I can still listen to it and be happy
>>
I always thought Daily Routine was saying "Just a sycamore in my head" which sounds way cooler than the actual lyrics. I was even gonna make a t-shirt of a brain tree with those lyrics.
>>
>>73627645
you got BTFO hard. think about those numbers compared to any radio or club hit.
>>
>>73631932
>AOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW!!
fuck man that got me
>>
>>73627848
experimental pop, not art pop
>>
>>73627430
Death Grips are mainstream you doofus, leave your basement once in awhile
>>
>>73633269
maybe with the hipster faggots you surround yourself with,
>>
So OP can we get a review
>>
>>73632120
I always thought it was "just a signal in my head" and always thought that was way cooler than the actual lyric also
