Lynch is the average Christopher Nolan fan's idea of an auteur.
He's treated as a joke in just about any better film school, and for good reason.

He's also got a long history of desperate pandering to angsty teenagers in his own right, much like Reznor.

>>
>>73628142
The thematic/emotional landscape of Reznor's music is identical to the thematic/emotional landscape of the music produced by bands such as Korn. It delivers the same content in a slightly different manner.
The fact that I even have to explain this to you is embarrassing.

>>73628253
If the comparison is unfair towards anyone, it's unfair towards Korn. At least their sound and aesthetic is entirely their own. They pioneered it, they own it.
Reznor just watered down and streamlined the sounds and aesthetics of a variety of genuinely innovative 70s/80s underground artists until he came to a sufficiently commercial and MTV-friendly conclusion.
>>
>>73628651
Reznor's lyrics feel more raw and honest. Also they aren't edgy just for the sake of being edgy.
I guess that's way Trent gets away with some stuff he wrote.
>>
>>73627956
That's a good soundtrack tho
>>
>>73628978

I said "any better film school" and not "any film school" for a reason. Don't blame me that you wasted money on a lazy, surface-level curriculum.
>>
>>73629604
Exactly. You said "any better film school" as if someone even stated a film school and didn't state any examples. Don't be mad because you no longer enjoy things and can only get off on being a condescending cunt who considers himself a "patrician"
>>
>>73629650
>Don't be mad because you no longer enjoy things and can only get off on being a condescending cunt who considers himself a "patrician"

I enjoy plenty of things. Juvenile Lollapalooza fodder like Nine Inch Nails and Lynch's dimestore surrealism just aren't among those things. It's OK, you'll turn 17 soon enough.
>>
>>73629700
Name some musicians and directors you like then you self-righteous prick. I fail to see how Lynch's surrealism is considered "dimestore." That's an entirely baseless criticism
>>
>>73629077

Nah, I don't go much for spoonfeeding.

>I fail to see how Lynch's surrealism is considered "dimestore." That's an entirely baseless criticism

You'd know if you had any knowledge of surrealist cinema beyond hollow American derivations of the real thing.
>>
>>73628651
>All music labelled edgy are the same thing

that's like saying Elvis, Slayer and Burzum are all the same because It's all rock music.
>>
>>73629816
>Nah, I don't go much for spoonfeeding.
This is such a fucking cop out. I mean Lynch isn't that great but you're being a straight up coward in this thread. Shameful.

The shit I took a few hours ago was almost as good as Inland Empre. I'll top Lynch soon enough.
>>
>>73629816
>Nah, I don't go much for spoonfeeding.
You're really cementing the fact that you're a pretentious cunt. Too scared of someone damaging your fragile ego by pointing out that they dislike some of your favorite artists? Jesus, you must be the most insufferable person to deal with in person.
>>
>>73629849
nice. I hope you get funding for your wonderful artistic vision :^)

I'm sure festivals will play an avant teen
>>
>>73629819
I didn't say that at all, nor do I believe it to be true. If you can't see the obvious similarities between Nine Inch Nails' and Korn's particular brands of middle-class suburban angst, then I don't know what to tell you.
Though again, Korn are more credible than Nine Inch Nails both in their music and their angst considering that Jonathan Davis' angst was rooted in genuine lived experiences and traumas. Reznor was always just a pouting, self-involved fag.

>>73629841

It was a much smarter and much funnier/more entertaining shithole back then though.

Yes.

I don't get it man. every board acts like that, it's tiring. if you're been around as long as you say then you'd have felt the same about it, but i guess you're just here to try and get reactions or something

have a good night, i guess

anyone like year zero? i think it's my favourite album musically, so many songs have such an odd, upbeat feel to them

>I don't get it man. every board acts like that, it's tiring. if you're been around as long as you say then you'd have felt the same about it, but i guess you're just here to try and get reactions or something

He's either not been around long enough to have become jaded or is too ridiculous to have gotten past that point.

>>73630334

I like the sonic aesthetic of Year Zero the most. It's glitchy.

That one is in my usual rotation, the distortion and bitcrushing on the percussion and synths along with the filthy guitar solo really makes the song.
>>
>>73630555
I like year zero because it's the part in ternt's career where he apparently god tired of writing about himself and did a more studio themed album.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gu3VFqPEJTk

it's the only album (aside PHM and Broken) where he's not been going through any major shit, and it's nice to think of him focusing on something else
>>
>>73630629
>I like year zero because it's the part in ternt's career where he apparently god tired of writing about himself
Yeah, this is where his lyric writing skills actually picked up a bit. The better NIN songs aren't about Trent or his personal problems.
>>
>>73630692
be specific when you say better. no right answer, just want to hear your preferred songs.

a lot of his NIN work is pretty restrictive in a sense too. a lot of his non NIN stuff, remixes and stuff, is really nice too.

for the anon that liked the distorted feel of YZ, try this

>>
>>73630767
>just want to hear your preferred songs.
Generally leaning more on the songs about religion or politics, Terrible Lie, Heresy, lots of Year Zero for example.

I don't mind his more personal writing, some of his best songs like The Great Below came from that sort of introspective writing, but for an entire album it's often fatiguing.

>>73630901
>dumb newfag doesn't even know about the poster counter

dumb newfag
>>
>>73630905
i get that, and i think you're referring mostly to the fragile and maybe HM

the fragile came at a pretty awful part in his life, his dog died, his girlfriend left him, he'd just sobered up and realised his old manager was trying to fuck him. from all that he had a lot of emotive, and it transferred into his music.
20 years later it definitely looks like angsty trash but i see it testament to how often it gets complained about, at least

Korn's first two albums are literally the only two albums to get the idea of urban metal right and they were a 10/10 live band in the 90s.

NIN was just Ministry/Godflesh-lite.

Korn's sound and aesthetic are heavily borrowed from Acid Bath and the whole "creepy clowns, fucked-up childhood, southern hicks, abusive parents, bullying, slasher psychopaths and hard drugs" combo was found across many many bands in the 90s
