It's a bunch of ridiculously talented musicians making goofy, pointlessly complicated nonsense for a laugh. It's complex enough that it's a challenging listen, but lighthearted enough that it's still tons of fun

California is a varied mix of pop tunes

California is their only decent album. I strongly dislike their first two because all the songs were a little to unstructured for my liking. I did like Carousel from their s/t and Everyone I Went To High School With is Dead from Disco Volante though. Of course I much prefer Ween when fulfilling my spork needs.

I was obsessed with Mr. Bungle in high school (around 2002-2005). I find I don't really revisit them all that often. I still think California is a solid album, but there are a lot better Mike Patton albums. I think part of the appeal is they're an easy way for people to start moving towards "weird" music if that makes any sense.

Because Mike Patton is in it.
