I took the balls to finally record in September 2015, I grabbed a 2 dollar headset and plugged it into the laptop and began recording on Audacity. That was about half year after I got my electric guitar, this Burzum cover was the first thing I ever recorded: https://varsas.bandcamp.com/track/the-crying-orc-burzum-feldolgoz-s

QOTD: Like two or three years ago I started recording my stuff. They were just acoustic ambient demos. Did them under the name Remington SL3. Then, I made an album named minds, under the name "yoiji". Afterwards, I made some other release under etcétera. and finally I'm using my own name.

Hey everyone, long time no see.

Warren Hildebrand (aka Foxes in Fiction, founder of Orchid Tapes) recently mastered my Jaryk EP "__________,pt.1" & I've updated my bandcamp with the superior version, help yourself to a free download.

https://letthecomputerdecide.bandcamp.com/album/pt-1

>experimental
>mixed genres
>piano, acoustic, sampling, electronic
>lo-fi, pop, healing, ambient, field recording

I also have another upcoming album, soon to be mastered also by Warren Hildebrand (if you ever need a music recommendation, check out the catalog of albums he's mastered & contributed to. He's worked with Sam Ray, Alex G, & Mathew Lee Cothran, to name just a few. I'm definitely not as good as them though). You can currently hear two unmastered singles from my band project's album WE BUY HOUSES, at

https://webuyhouses.bandcamp.com/

>pop, indie, lo-fi, alternative, field recording

QOTD: I started playing instruments and writing songs at about 10-y.o, recorded lots of shitty demos throughout middle school. I began to focus more on recording and production during high school, made some singles and a brutal MIDI videogame soundtrack, which developed into somewhat of a varied death metal concept album I recorded around the same time. I wouldn't currently release either of them or any of my music prior to graduation (though it's probably still online somewhere) but retrospectively, it was a good learning process & I can still appreciate them.

Great to see you man. I'm a huge fan of Orchid Tapes. afterwards the LUST release (Meishi Smile)
I think that pt. 1 is pretty good. They're very cool compositions with a very particular sound that defines the release, although I feel they could use some more effects to "strengthen the message". I like the roomy sound that they have, but I feel that you could try to balance the background emptiness with the warm and fuller sound that the instruments provide, at least in Gray. To be continued is a great example that you made yourself.
The last track is kind of out of place? I don't know how to describe it. It's totally cool if you put something different in your release, but I think that while it is a good track standalone, it does not fit the rest of the album. A great example on a track that is way different than the release, yet fit perfectly, is the opening to Alex G's Beach Music.

"Man as a Prism" is a meditation piece released last week.

It's a question without an answer, it's a statement without an introduction. Where are we? What roads were followed in order for us to get here? What experiences build us and which bind us into this crude human form? Can we break free? Will we know when we are free?

>QOTD: When did you start making music?
Late 2009. I was in a band that was going nowhere and I really wanted to make music so I sat down and started experimenting. Through the years I've been getting better and better though I'm still unbelievably rubbish at creating beats which is a shame... Lately, I like shimmers, deep sounds, crackles, glitches, and oneiric voices.

I'm at work today so I'll try to listen and comment on a few things. For now, I'm certainly recommending the latest album from this bloke >>73604091. If you have a taste for old Earth records and other drone-metal bands it's a must in the BC threads. Shame about the abrupt ending(s) but hope you'll continue to work on the compositions.

Thunder: not a fan of panning the sounds so hard, it makes the track feel very static no matter how many shimmers you add. As there is very little rising and falling action the track just kind of ends instead of reaching a climax or resolution.
Crops: Very weak start, the quacking sound is not very to much liking but the voices are fantastic!
Echo: Definitely the best track so far, the atmosphere is great and the composition is not overloaded as it was in the previous tracks. While the structure is lacking and there doesn't seem to be any coherent flow to the track it is enjoyable even as a non-moving audio postcard
Days of Gold: Combining the esotheric voices with more lax compositions works great. The underlying sound also serves as a good medium to push the sounds forward.

All in all, there are some good sounds here but you should decide on your compositions. Either you want the tracks to serve as a quasi story-telling medium or you would rather have them be audio snapshots. Sometimes it's hard to decide but both options have a place to be if they are utilized correctly.
Another thing you should work on is the production itself as the audio seems very static and dull, playing almost next to the listener instead of shrouding him. Utilize panning, EQing, automation and other neat tricks which will help the tracks feel more alive.

Hmm...

After the first track I was very impressed and was wondering where the album would go next and the answer appeared to be... 'everywhere'. These types of all-encompasing albums are not really my kind of deal as they feel very disjointed and chaotic (and not in the good sense). You do seem, however, to know what you are doing as the first and the third tracks are very solid, the forth being least to my liking due to it's meandering nature and lack of any development.

My curiousity is causing me to try Part 2 so here we go.

Well, it seems that 2/3 of the album are hidden behind a download-wall so I can't really comment further. The first track is good though compared to the sound-shifting of Part 1 seems much more tame.
>>
>>73604563

Synthwave is not really my go-to-style when listening to music but I can acknowledge that your production is pretty sweet, especially the dnb track I've listened to. The synthwave ones might lack a bit of a punch but it's all dependent on what you were going for (neo-synthwave fueled by nostalgia or actual synth works in the vein of the 80s).

Tbh I've dropped the synthwave somewhere midway. I tend to dislike long albums and the album didn't grab me so much to continue.
>>
>>73605852
thank you man, for sure, synthwave is a niche and rather specific in its sound, but i also used my own approach to the genre. much appreciated.

i am thinking of setting up a twitch stream later today where i will be feedbacking everyone in this thread live with my mic and everyone would be welcome in chat to discuss too

You need to work on your vocals and the harmonies you make your just playing one chord on the guitar or very basic chord progressions for most of the songs. This makes the music very uninteresting and sometimes it feels like the guitar is out of tune. Your voice most of the time is out of tune
>>
>>73604913
>Cardboardcave.bandcamp.com

I've listened to this two times due to its (very) short length and simply being different to the rest of us ambient folk in the thread.

The album (?) starts of very strong unfortunately the very first tracks loses its momentum halfway through as it slows down to almost a halt. Not a great opener to be honest.
I like the crackling and poping sound coming in and out of the composition and obviously the french whispers add to the mood.
The second track is unfortunately pretty bad as it does not have a carrying motif nor any catching atmosphere. The guitar at the end is also very nondescript.
The third track is greatly enhanced by the percussive sounds that try to drive the song and add a groove to the start-stop nature of the track.

Overall I see some potential here but you have to decide which road you would like to follow, the soundscapy nondescript mood pieces or more poppy, but still experimental compositions which, in my opinion, would be great. You can listen to the guy in the thread with the Part 1 album, I think it would give you an idea of what you can actually do with the subject matter.

The production is, unfortunately, quite bad. If you were going for a lo-fi feeling similar to Ariel Pink or something in that vein then I guess you kinda succeeded but that style is not to my liking, especially hearing the numerous sounds that are contained within the tracks I think they deserve to be much more spacious.
