As a record, Confield takes this by far imo. But if I listen to Drukqs the way Aphex Twin intended, then Drukqs because ultimately with Autechre I prefer most things that came out after Confield over Confield itself.

I don't understand why this board loves drukQs so much. ICBYD is easily Richard's best album

Why? Confield is a good album theres no doubt about that, but Drukqs is Aphex Twin's magnum opus. It really is something special, the way each track takes on a new form and how I'm still able to discover new things on each track even after years of listening is just astounding. Songs like Mt Saint Michel and Ziggomatic are some of the best songs I've ever heard period. Maybe it's because I have a personal connection with the album, but Drukqs I truly believe is a masterpiece

You still haven't told me why? I feel like a lot of the reason why people call Drukqs mediocre is because is wasn't critically acclaimed. And Syro is underrated but I definitely wouldn't call it his best album, while Xmas is one of my favorite tracks by him most of the other tracks don't even come close to the complexity and memorability of most of Drukqs

Drukqs is uninteresting, it's just a cheese garbage, which is also relevant to most of his stuff, and it's funny since he said the same about Radiohead. (Radiohead is also mediocre)
Aphex Twin is essentially music for people who aren't into music. It's weird enough to make them feel like patricians, and safe enough to not be repulsive.

Autechre are my favorite group but SAW II is my single favorite album.

I like ambient music, or at the very least, things which tend to get tagged as such. I don't claim to know everything that there is to know about it, but I listen to Kevin Drumm, Andrew Chalk, quiet NWW selections, and some other things along those lines.

Despite this moderate branching out on my part, SAW II remains unironically the best. Nothing else touches it.

Top kek, you know Druqks is just a compilation of a bunch of tunes Richard still had on a harddrive. He lost an USB stick full of unreleased material and out of fear that the founder would post all his shit online he decided to make a huge album with all the unreleased tracks he liked. I love Aphex Twin under all his aliases but Druqks is far from his magnum opus.

I would say Confield is better.
Drukqs was really cool when it came out, I listen to it loads then. But I dont think it have aged that well, just like a lot of his other music.

Drukqs isn't that great as a full album though. It doesn't flow all that well, and it's full of filler. This is why I said "Drukqs the way Aphex Twin intended" because even Richard himself is aware of this, and released Drukqs the way he did because he wanted the user to find the tracks they like the most and make a playlist out of them (it was released around when mp3 files started becoming more common which incentivized Richard further with this idea). It's got some great tracks for sure, but it sure as hell isn't great 100% of the way.

What tracks do you consider filler? I feel like if all the piano tracks got removed more of /mu/ would love the album. I like them, find them pretty soothing especially after hearing one of the crazier tracks
