Instrumentation doesn't necessarily matter but ENERGY is a primary component of JD's style. This album has no energy, it's a sterile limp plodding snore.

The opener has energy. And if he had the same energy every single album throughout the entire thing I can honestly say I'd get tired. Felt like a nice change to me.
