If one of the main features of Hip-Hop is it's lyricism then that should be good, or at least the artist should try to be good at it. You cannot deny someone like Kanye's lyricism has gone from alright to downright awful, more lazy and more phoned in with each album. Artists like Young Thug are most improvised singers than anything, and Travis Scott also has a ridiculously low effort approach to rapping, to the point where said rappers are more focused on having their lines be melodic and catchy. That's just basically pop music.

You can't have an album of say, jazz music, and say "yeah the said artist's piano playing fucking sucks BUT the drums are pretty good!" You have to at least attempt to make an effort on all fronts. If you dislike a rapper's lyrics and style of rapping but like the instrumental then, guess what, you like the producer, not the actual rapper.
