Was it really that bad?
there were some really good parts but too many bad parts for it to be good.
find ur wings was good and the other one with kali uchis and like smuckers was really good but he just isnt that great at making really consistent music anymore
Cherry Bomb could have been a fantastic EP

The hate this got was the backlash from Tyler's newfound fame and hype. The pendulum was swinging the opposite way and his hype was dying down, so now it was "safe" to come and shit on this album as a sign of your new found "maturity".
You'd see this comment about 1000 times a month, "Earl and Frank are the only talented ones, IDLS is so much better than this."
Which just indicates that people were not OF fans for what they were to begin with, but the cool points it garnered them for liking it. And, it also proves the "true art is angsty" trope. For some reason, people really liked IDLS, a boring, sleep-inducing album with Earl whining throughout, and about 4 good tracks if you're being generous.
Cherry Bomb was a return to form for Tyler, Wolf was the appealing, commercially viable summer album that had high production values. Cherry Bomb was Tyler going back to gritty lo-fi production (which was Tyler's M.O. in the beginning anyway), along with a couple of new tricks that he learned making Wolf (jazzy instrumental pieces that call back to 70s Roy Ayers tracks).
This sounds like classic OF with some new spins on the sound, and if you don't like it you either never liked Tyler's production (or music for that matter), or are just riding the hate train because it's cool and you want to distance yourself from OF fandom.

>no pilot or okaga
drop fucking young out of there but keep perfect
Pilot was my most listened to song of last year. That one part where the synths come in get me Everytime.
I appreciate him trying to do something different
It's his second best after Wolf
