Listening to this album after having read on Robert Wyatt's personal story can be heart-breaking. And yes, Scaruffi is a man of taste, even if some of his reviews and ratings are controversial.

Rock Bottom is a flawed masterpiece. Alifib and Alife are the strongest songs on the album and the saxophone wails sound like someone's heart is being ripped out of their chest. Simply brilliant and it definitely awards active listening.

I've discovered so much music thanks to him and some of the albums became my all time favorite albums too - Trout Mask Replica, Not Available, Loveless, Desertshore, Y, etc. As far as other albums and artists on your list - why didn't you like Nico's Desertshore? Diamanda Galas definitely has better albums than her self titled from 1984. and I would suggest listening to her other albums. Give Safe as Milk another listen please. When I've listened to Third, having heard Facelift and Slightly All The Time, I was almost certain I'd consider it a masterpiece, although the last two tracks just aren't up to par.
