At this point, should XXL just make their entire list votable

X deserved his slot because of the wave, same with Carti and Ugly God. The rest are no namers we will never hear about again. Famous Dex definitely deserved a slot purely based on the amount of people wanted him on there. Say what you want about that video of him, he makes some good music in my opinion. But like all artists has piles of shit.

Now all we have are names that everyone knows and some unknowns who can get 5 minutes of fame. So why not make it votable I guess, can't be worst than this.

The XXL freshman list is for more than just the people that browse the internet and think they know all of the artists. Everyone's mentality is "I dont know that artist on the list, why isnt this one that I do know not on their instead of that one!! This artist sucks!!"

I think you are forgetting the whole point of the list. To bring new and upcoming artists attention that they might not have had. The list is to influence the artists' too, not just predict it. Not everyone keeps up on soundcloud rappers, so this is supposed to rise them up above the typical "soundcloud rapper" label everyone puts them on.

Also, you are forgetting they put this in magazines for people who dont even use the internet frequently to check out.

They also judge these artists by more than youtube and soundcloud hits, because radio play is still a thing. They also try to keep it to 1 artist per area, and try to make sure they all have different fanbases, to keep it diverse (Hence why artists like ski mask, lil pump, etc didnt get on.)

So making all of it voted spots makes it pretty meaningless.

Would it really be that different if they were all voted? I mean the fans could vote but the artist/magazine get the last say. Dex would still not be there and snubs from last year like Young MA would still be too egotistical to make it.
