They're not a 'post punk band' in the strictest definition of the term but they did win post punk by being the most successful band of the era.

Also I told myself I'd post this next time I saw a U2 thread. Most people past a certain age have seen it but it you haven't or don't get U2 or don't get what the big deal was, you should watch this. It goes on a bit too long but that moment at 7.40 when he reaches her and the crowd erupts, that's the real deal. This is what catapulted them into the big, big time. May not seem like much now but it was riveting for the time.
