Opinions on The Cars?

This and Candy-O are two of the best things to come out of New Wave. The Cars are awesome.
Every song on their debut album is a classic

I like that album cover where you can see tiddy
>The Cars signed with Elektra in 1978 and their eponymous debut album was released that June. It went to #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and its four singles became radio hits, especially "Just What I Needed". Signing with Elektra was a wise choice as the label had no other New Wave acts while some labels such as Arista had several of them.
>The cover art, featuring model Natalya Medvedeva, was designed by Elektra and differed considerably from the band's own concept art which was much more abstract than the cover they got. The band members were not particularly happy with it, guitarist Elliot Easton said he felt uncomfortable with "that big, grinning face staring at me".

they have a few good tracks

I think she's cute
drive is actually god tier
One of the best new-wave bands. Their debut may as well be a greatest hits album. I mean what more can we say about the Cars? Nice to see a thread either way.

She didn't live too long, died only in her 40s.
The Cars [Elektra, 1978]
Ric Ocasek writes catchy, hardheaded-to-coldhearted songs eased by wryly rhapsodic touches, the playing is tight and tough, and it all sounds wonderful on the radio. But though on a cut-by-cut basis Roy Thomas Baker's production adds as much as it distracts, here's hoping the records get rawer. That accentuated detachment may feel like a Roxy Music move in the first flush of studio infatuation, but schlock it up a little and this band really could turn into an American Queen. B+

Crazy. I think they shouldve just been on the cover, with Ric facing backwards as to not scare anyone off.
>>73503295
The band didn't really like the photos included on the sleeve either, so meh.
>>73503367
I have a feeling that was just Ric being the spokesperson for the band. The other 4 are cool looking in their own ways, Ric was always just a mess.
Orr had a really unique bass style and tone.
>>73503430
lol he looks like grimes
>>73503295
lol
>>73503295
Strange, old Ric looks better than young Ric.
>>73503506
to be blunt that's because he already looked like the cryptkeeper to begin with
>>73502883
Fun New Wave band. Not my favorite, that goes to the Police, but every album had a lot of killer cuts on it. I actually prefer Candy-O and Shake It Up to the debut.
>>73503966
B52s are the best new wave band bra
>>73504691
The Police > The Cars > Blondie > Sparks (new wave era) > Squeeze > New Order > Talking Heads > Duran Duran > The Psychedelic Furs > Missing Persons > The Go Go's > B-52s
>>73504866
Highly controversial
>>73504873
Devo are one slot below B-52s. /mu/ probably wouldnt like that very much
>>73504866
I'm>>73503966. Thanks for sticking up for me, anon. I didn't plan on responding because New Wave was diverse enough that those bands each have their own sound. Not a bad order. I keep hearing good things about Sparks, I should give them a try. Glad to see Squeeze represented.
>>73505148
I'm just drinking a lot and I agreed with you. I forgot a lot of bands in the rank, not that it's important
>>73504866
>Including Missing Persons
Good lad.
>>73505402
That's such a brilliant album. I can listen to that over and over. If only Mental Hopscotch was a bonus track.
>>73504866
>Duran Duran over literally anything
>B-52s the worst
>no XTC
>no Elvis Costello
>no The The
>no Talk Talk
>no Japan
>no Ultravox
>no Dexys

>>73505505

I've heard one song by them and can't remember what it was. Am I still banned?
>>73504866
Highly specious definition of 'new wave' there, friendo
>>73505566
Wow. Right on. Let's have sex.
>>73505616
