drugs is just the icing on the cake for most musicians who needed an extra push. the groundwork has already in them.

A little yeah. It means they lack imagination and creativity, or rather, lack the means of accessing and tapping into that imagination and creativity. Anyone who thinks taking drugs make you a better artist or makes the music better is bullshit. Almost all music is made sober, even by those who are drugged out.

That said, drugs can give you a different perspective on something, and that can be useful in a creative way.

its like studying for a test with caffeine. you already know the material but caffeine just makes it lil bit easier.

all that matters is the end product

if you can make an awesomely mixed and mastered album on the microphone that varg recorded filosofem on, then more power to you. it doesn't stop anyone from using pro tools in a real studio

OP here, yeah that's exactly how I feel. I think if you're a musician who takes drugs that inspires later music you're legitimate (ie. The Beatles) but if you need it then you're not as good (ie. shitty jam bands or something)

Well I got really motivated to write music and felt a real burst of creativity after I took LSD for the first time, but I think it's because it unlocked a serious desire to create in me. It gave me motivation to make music.
