My ex got this on vinyl for me for Christmas one year, we broke up a couple weeks ago, since then I've been afraid to listen to it.

Why do you like this so much? Kanye singing is the fucking worst. There's like three decent songs on the album.

I don't like much Kanye, but that song is a 10/10.

It's cohesive as all hell. Nearly every artistic choice gels together to create this cold, isolating atmosphere to get lost in. The minimalist synths, the spacious production on the drums, the occasional use of string sections, and even the autotuned vocals all accent the subject matter beautifully. It's just so pleasantly coherent as mood music. The only aspects of the album that misfire are the guest features (thank God there's only 2) and the occasionally clunky lyricism, but the latter is true of everything Kanye's put out. Easily my favorite album of his otherwise.
