now i definitely need to see that film
i watched that aoyama's first work last summer, really obscure film called helpless. the main character wears a pretty cool nirvana shirt throughout the movie, which is pretty aesthetic for a film set in japan during the late 90s.

It's pretty long but it's a comfy movie
Is helpless good? I've only seen the 1 aoyama film

compared to eureka, helpess is really short at 1 hr 20 minutes
if you've seen a kitano yakuza film, you know what to expect. it's aoyama riffing off of kitano's long-takes, sudden violence, and slow-paced formula while trying to tell a really amateur but human story at the same time. it's alright, it's a mixed bag for the most part, but when it hits, it hits.
surprisingly, a lot of the film feels more modern than i thought it would. can see a lot of stuff contemporary indie directors would take from (there are multiple scenes that focus on characters riding motorcycles through the city in close-up, and i've noticed that nearly every new indie project needs a scene of characters riding a bike/motorcycle in close-up for some reason. the only recent indie movie that did that kind of shot well was the comedy.)
Nier: Automata and Ghost in the Shell (movie)

I haven't seen any takeshi kitano films, I'll watch some when I get back into watching movies again.
Goodfellas soundtrack, so unforgettable.
