For me I wouldn't go as far as up to Document. I felt that even with that album they were dropping the ball. Lifes Rich Pageant is goat though. I'd say that Automatic and New Adventures are album albums.

I'll agree with them in that the 80's stuff was better overall. But to to diminish the 90s stuff is stupid. The entire band had all collectively gotten better at their instruments, and Stipe had much more confidence as a frontman in their later years.
