Last one died. Had some decent threads lately, let's keep it up.
Question/Storytime: tell a story about a song you've been working on. About what you're doing, or the meaning behind the lyrics, the inspiration - anything.

I'm currently working on a song for a split release that deals with stasis and breaking out of it. Ironically, my process so far has been to constantly think about it instead of writing down any lyrics. I've got the music for the first part of the song down but the lyrics will need some more time to come to me. It's all jumbled images like war and empty rooms and I have to go fishing in there to come back with what the song is supposed to be. My process also involves cycling outside of town and going swimming in the lake. It's all connected.

All the songs I'm working on atm are loosely based on dreams. Kinda turning into a concept album, injecting symbolism where it fits. Working on one where an airplane is ripped in half by a tornado in midair and I'm trying to hold onto someone.

The label we're on just put out a new release from two of the members from this band. It's pretty rad. We're also currently mixing our third album which will be out by next month.
As for me, I'm working on writing a math rock album influenced by early Don Caballero. Imagine an album with super-complex arrangements with an aesthetic which is super half-assed (irony lmao).

This is actually really impressive. I do enjoy disjointed, sprawling albums about nothing. It's like if Zachariah Holte didn't take himself so seriously and made an album of memes.

>I dig that. I find walking around in parks with my dog and swimming is really good for happening on lyrics and melodies.
I mostly get my ideas either when cycling relaxed at night or when really pushing myself at day. At night I can think more clearly and often come up with lyrics and themes. At day I cycle until I feel like breaking down and I work myself into a frenzy to experience urgency and something akin to anger. I use external influences to get me into certain moods I need for creating something in particular.

Question:
>Tell a story about a song you've been working on.
Well, a lot of people seem to like Burning Man, and it's got a story attached to it, at least what inspired it.
When I made it, I was kinda in a bad place, so I really got into comedy again, and one of my favorites is Richard Pryor. Some of you know about the incident where he literally got burned himself (hence the title), but still survived. His story is pretty damn depressive, and I always felt like his stand-up routine was just fucked up, especially if you explore deeper into his childhood and shit, then you stumble upon one traumatic experience after another.
At the same time, like I said, I was in a somewhat of an isolation, fucked up a lot of relationships, doubted a lot of shit about myself on many levels, so I wanted to create some really abrasive shit that had a UK vibe to it, but still within the (sub)genre I was dwelling into. Whitehouse is a big part of the EP, so that also helped a lot. Does that make sense?

I just released an album some months ago and I'm writing for the second one. I've already got 4 tracks down and a lot of ideas, but right now that I'm working on the rest, I just want to see 'where I'm at' music-wise and 'where I want these tracks to take me', so basically the intent of this next album.

I'm working on a song called Howl. It's kind of misanthropic, but gentle Jim O Rourke folk tune. I made it after my group of friends threw me out, so they're one inspiration.
Also trying to work on new material. I had some tracks that I made a while back that I might just compile them together and publish them soon. Howl won't be on it.

I recorded this album, as well as most of my other albums on a 4 track tape recorder. One of the cassettes got chewed up so I had the throw it out. Fortunately, I had already transferred the a side to my computer and didn't lose any songs on there. Songs like With Jesus, Rust, and How The Mighty Have Fallen pts 1 & 2 have parts from that chewed up tape.

I've been working on an album for almost a year and it's a serious deviation from my sound collage work. Hopefully it will be good.

Hi everyone
>tell a story about a song you've been working on
Well it's not a song, but an EP called Hullámsír. It was the first thing I recorded after I bought an old Casio keyboard to learn how to piano. Also the first release to include all-analog wall noise (with effect pedals). It's supposed to be a psychedelic experience, drawing contrast between the soft, music box melodies that represents the calmness of water, and the painful, wall noise that represents the incredible mass of the sea. The EP is basically about drowning, in 3 stages: shipwreck, drowning, being washed up on shore

I'd like to reply to the post you said about my latest album:
Yes I noticed that I'm maybe a bit too prolific, but rushed releases are a thing of the past. I usually have a concept, a finished record in mind when I begin the recording sessions that can take a day. Since it's free impro, there's no need to rehearse, and because it's a one-man project, I don't have to deal with other people.
I work like how studios make animated series: I work on multiple releases and projects at the same time, sometimes I do recording sessions for noise in which I record about 20-30 noise tracks, so I'll have prerecorded samples for when I assemble it all in FL Studio. I do this to make my job easier, monthly releases are just a side effect for this. I just have too much time to think about ideas that I can put into my music.
