I think being critical about music isn't a sign of maturity. Instead, I see it as a phase. An actually good confession: I was gonna kill myself when I was starting high school (failing all my classes, no friends, depressed and had severe ADD that I couldn't handle) but I discovered the Velvets and started to become really interested in music, playing guitar and getting more "out there". I'm convinced a lot of people here force themselves to enjoy the music they listen to. A large percentage of users are likely clueless about music and pretend to enjoy something because of the image it gives off to people online. Many are more afraid of being called a pleb than being honest about what they like.

I've been browsing this board since like 2011 and I still haven't finished the /mu/core stuff.

I am unable to articulate why I enjoy the music that I do. I've been thinking a lot about this. Honestly I think it boils down to the ingrained culture of the board. /mu/, like many boards such as /sci/ and /lit/ are full of the 1% of people in their category.

If you showed the typical /mu/core chart to an average music fan on the street, they'll MAYBE know 20% of the albums and artists. It's a pretentious culture and the memes associated with said culture are what keep the board alive. Of course there is still some good content on here, but most people are just dick stroking, reclusive, pretentious music snobs who have such bloated and warped ideas of taste that they, in reality, have no taste at all.
