I listened to these guys so much in high school it's hard to even look at them now.

I burned out on lateralus, impressive as it is.

10k days or Undertow. For some reason, my appreciation for those two has not yet expired, while Lateralus has gotten old and I never was able to enjoy Aenima

I'd say Lateralus is their most fleshed out work.

Same here. I had a pretty cringeworthy phase in high school when I listened to them non stop. I rememeber writing an essay on Lateralus and how it uses the fibonacci sequence.
I also remember that I wanted a Tool tattoo on my leg so bad. Oh god.

Never liked the production on Undertow and some of the song sound too samey.

10,000 days on the other hand sounds too modern and clean in my opinion. While instrumentally it's definitely a step up from Lateralus (with Rosetta Stoned being their most thought out track of all time) but I don't really like Maynard's vocals on that one. His "rapping" is really annoying.
