Thoughts on chiptune?

I think chiptune acts lack the ambition or whatever to make actual music.
The Depreciation Guild is alright though, since the chip tunes are ornamental and not their whole shtick.

there's some cool stuff in the genre

It's alright. Covers of actual songs are interesting, but I couldn't listen to a while one. I've yet to find a chiptune artist that makes me care about their music and isn't just conventional covers.
