Bola was really good, highly recommended. And I've got got the Ekoplekz in my backlog, just got to get around to it. Sounded good from what little I've heard from it! Also been meaning to listen to Love Sick ever since it came out.

It's a really interesting take on the singer-songwriter folk genre of music. I don't think there is anyone else doing or who has done what Mark does on Common As Light, with the absurdly and often arbitrarily specific and detailed stream-of-consciousness borderline-spoken word and even at times rap-style vocals/singing/lyrics. The instrumentation is also beautiful and hops styles a lot, ranging from soft acoustic guitar stuff, to hip-hop-ish drums, to funky electric stuff, and it's also a whopping 2-hour runtime that just makes it a hell of an experience.

and of course the feels, Mark's storytelling and reminiscing on family and friends both alive and dead, past and present; and his observations on tragedy, celebrities, and various other subjects are really interesting and unique.

ive always thought sun kil moon is such a gimmick. ive yet to hear them progress into anything interesting or outside of the already established formula. his songwriting and vocals are just fucking boring. just because he specifically talks on his life doesn't make it anymore meaningful to me. what i heard from this new album sounds just like rehashed shit skm have done numerous times before.

It is one of if not the most original albums I've heard in years, and it truly sections itself off from what's going on (musically, not topically of course) to the point where it honestly deserves the "Avant-garde" label.

The instrumentals are insanely interesting with some tight musical ideas and variation throughout the thing. It's not just beautiful, funny, heart warming, and intense, it's GENUINELY beautiful, GENUINELY funny, GENUINELY heart warming and GENUINELY intense; Since you know that Kozelek is 110% unhinged on it and everything comes straight from the heart. It's like one big platter with all these songs that express every strength Kozelek has. Hell, God Bless Ohio isn't too far off from Ghosts of The Great Highway when you look into it, it conjures a similar wintery acoustic emotional vibe. Stranger than paradise could be reworked just a little bit and it could fit snugly on Admiral Fell Promises and so on. However he dishes out some insanely new sounding material like Chili Lemon Peanuts, Butch Lullaby, I Love Portugal and Bergen to Trondheim, which value sounds in a way no other Kozelek project has before, and all of them stand up with his best work (especially I Love Portugal, probably the best song he's written this decade)

I could go on and on about how he almost reinvented rap by pushing his sing/speak thing, or how he makes the most minute details insanely interesting, but that would mean 5 more paragraphs. It's sad that this album isn't that popular because if it was then journalists could write entire BOOKS dissecting it, idk I think it's great

I didn't like this album much the first couple of times I listened to it

Then I forgot about it, and Sun Kil Moon suddenly was playing in my city

I went on a whim, it was a Tuesday night, and I had nothing better to do

Absolutely amazing, 10/10 performance. The guy is fucking hilarious, a real entertainer, and was so interactive with the crowd. He had people in tears during 'I Can't Live Without My Mother's Love'

One of the best live acts I've seen. I'll definitely give his new album a proper listen now.
