I'm trying to into metal but I have no idea where to start. Feel alone. What are the albums that won you over to heavier music? The only metal I randomly enjoyed was Deafheaven, but I'd like to know more essential albums for respecting the entire style
>>
Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance
Metallica - Master of Puppets

If you don't like those then don't even bother
>>
>>73396910
Anything in particular I should be trying to appreciate or focus on when I listen to these? Emotions, instrumentation, historical context, etc?
>>
I might get shit for it but I started with these

kys my man
>>
>>73397053
anything but this
>>
>>73396910
also Motörhead - Ace Of Spades
candlemass-epicus doomicus metillacus
dio-holy diver

also these are mostly traditionnal heavy metal/ new wave of british heavy metal/traditionnal doom, so don't forget to explore on your own, there's a lot of great stuff in other subgenres, they're just more of an aquired taste

let's try
>>
>>73400801
Just put Deafheaven and Lithurgy there
>>
>>73400909
or linkin park, korn and evanescence if you wanna be meme-y
>>
>>73401034
Linkin Park and Korn's earliest albums are actually a good headstart for metal. Hell, they really were for a bunch of people back then.
>>
>>73401097
I can't really hate them, since they gor me into metal (hell, they even got me into music) but you gotta admit they're not that good
>>
>>73397026
>Emotions, instrumentation,
definitely these
>>
I remember when I was 13 and pretty much exclusively listened to disturbed

I wish I didn't
>>
>>73396910
This is a good start, yeah.
I started into metal around 1988, so my list includes:
Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil
Megadeth - Peace Sells
Ozzy Osbourne - Bark at the Moon
Metallica - Ride the Lightning

Those are some major reasons I started to love metal. Then I started leaning toward more death metal and discovered Kreator and Death. That cemented it.
>>
>>73396910
Not going to recommend Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath?

>>73397053
That's more death and hard metal than regular metal man.
>>
>>73402339
>hard metal
wat
the guy posted shitty nu-metal and shitty melodeath
>>
>>73402492
That's not what nu-metal is but, yeah, entry level stuff. Like OP asked for. That's what happen when you get into metal in the early 2000s. I was like 12 at the time. I didn't know better.

btw nice name Darkess
>>
>>73399526
unironically this
>>
>>73403257

>>
>>73403367
as it appears, I can't spell darkness even if my life depended on it
I should really get some sleep
>>
>>73401578
I wish I still could, it felt so tough and edgy back then..
>>
Obviously it comes down to how quickly you can take getting into heavy stuff, but this is how I got into it.
Linkin Park -> Avenged Sevenfold -> Bullet for my Valentine -> Metallica/Slayer -> Behemoth -> Anaal Nathrakh
Not that these are the best artists to listen to or anything, but I found I listened to one or two albums by these guys, and that set me up for listening to anything regardless of how heavy/extreme.

If you're not concerned with how to get into the heavy stuff, it seems people ITT have posted good albums for you to try and pick your fancy.
>>
If you want to get into BM try Ulver - Bergtatt

It's a favorite for a lot of people, clean vocals and production mixed with dark ambient and spoken word. While accessible it is still good.
>>
>>73397053
Absolutely kill yourself.
>>
>>73399526
TYpe o and thou do not belong there

Why not start at the best metal album ever released?
Pic related
>>
>>73396885
In my shitty opinion, many classic metal bands got caught in an epic hard fast badassery competition that damaged musicianship.

Better to start with:

Death
Blind Guardian
Be'lakor
>>
>>73396885
For me its a feeling of liking really powerful and energetic music that is also dark. I also can't get into most modern shit because I like shitty analog production.

Master of Puppets
Covenant
Most albums of Bathory
Darkthrones 2,3,4,and 6th
Symphonies of Sickness
All of the mid to late 90's Graveland I absolutely adore.
And lots of shred and 70's and 80's shit with good guitar playing like UFO and Warlord.
>>
>>73405241
Also my journey was like NIN>Pantera/Metallica/Slayer. etc>death metal>classic rock/shred>black metal>"viking" black metal to mostly late 70's and early 80's rockish metal and nwobhm, and other cool stuff like:

>>73397053
