It was culturally appropriated by post-grunge and people got sick of it due to over-exposure. Also, what >>73395575 said - drug abuse, deaths, in-band fighting, and a particular suicide held back the momentum of the 'Seattle Sound'.That's also probably also a reason why the label fatcats pushed the "post-grunge" bands to the public.
