Why couldn't he top this?

As much as I love Alcest, sadly, Neige is a bit of a one-trick-pony. He perfected his style of music through Alcest's first two albums, but he hasn't been able to make anything better without basically copying from earlier albums. He should explore other genres if he wants to stay 'fresh'.

Shelter was a good thing for Alcest to do, in all honesty. After Les Voyages[...], Alcest started to feel pretty 'flat' and uninspired to me, and Shelter was a great move in bringing 'life' back into the music. They should have continued down the dreampop route (although Shelter was heavily criticised by """metalheads""" who couldn't handle a soft and beautiful album), it kept the music fresh. Alcest either need to go post-rock or dreampop/shugazi if they want to progress as a band IMO.
