Okay /mu/ show me what you use to listen to your vinyls.
This is actually a request for what turntable I should buy because /wsr/ is pretty much clueless
Here's my pick Sony PS LX 300

The classic to use is the Audiotechnica LP120 so I would go with that one. But to be really honest you would be fine buying a turntable whichever you like. Just check if there is a counterweight and read some reviews and see if those are positive.

Just don't (and I mean DON'T) buy a Crosley or Audiotechnica LP60. Both are known for damaging your records.

going to buy audiotechnica lp120 next weel

90% of the average /v/ users are around the age of 18 so this spelling mistake is the least I am worried about. The 24/7 /grimes/ and /hiphopgeneral/ threads are much and much worse.
>>
I really love my Stanton for playing and sampling but Idk if you're into production
>>
I currently use an Aiwa PX-E850 which is roughly equivalent to an AT LP60, although I'm definitely going to upgrade when I have the money because its got no counterweight or anything.

Project Debut 3 or Carbon is probably what I'll be going for
>>
>>73355877
Pretty sure I have the same one. It works fine for me but I have no idea if it is actually a good record player or not

>what's bad about it?
Flimsy as fuck tonearm, non-standard cartridge mount, 100% plastic construction and
>USB
which by definition is absolute rubbish. It doesn't even make sense, I don't see why anyone would want it. If you're seriously considering digitizing vinyl what you want is a top notch turntable, a decent phono preamp and a decent soundcard, not a mediocre all-in-one package that you'll just have to throw out when you eventually want to upgrade. There's a reason USB turntable rips were banned on what.cd

>Or rather what should I look for in a good turntable?
A solid construction that doesn't look or feel cheap with some weight behind it. A tonearm that looks like they spent a little more than a dollar on it with a proper adjustable counterweight and adjustable anti-skating. If the tonearm doesn't have a standard cartridge mount (or a P-mount) it is 99 out of 100 times utter garbage not worthy of your consideration (or a Bang & Olufsen).

I'd recommend reading up a little bit and trying to find a decent used turntable somewhere. Hifi drops immensely in value very quickly so you can easily get a working $500 table from 10-20 years ago for maybe 100 bucks. As for new ones I hear good things about Pro-Ject and Rega and I think they have some affordable models. I would never allow one in my living room though but that's only because I really hate minimalistic designs
>>
>>73357201
used to have a pslx300, now I have a vintage pslx2. Everything about it is better, but I miss having the "start" button that picked up the needle and dropped it at the beginning.
>>
>turntables

nice undercut, faggot
>>
>>73357201
thank you for the info
which one do you currently use?

also should I get an amplifier or will an AV receiver suffice?
>>
>>73357663
Not him but he's very right. I personally use a Pro-Ject Debut III and IMO it's the perfect entry-level TT. I speak from experience when I say that anything without a good counterweight and diamond stylus will permanently fuck up your records, especially in the inner grooves (this is the biggest problem with buying second-hand records - IGD is unnoticeable to the eye but it renders a record unlistenable and applies to a significant majority of used vinyl).
>>
>>73357454
And I think that says a lot about the PS-LX300, considering the PS-LX2 isn't a great turntable. Still absolutely worth picking up if it's your first turntable.

There are also a lot of full-auto vintage turntables to be had, like the Dual 1229 but good luck finding that. I have a Garrard SP25 Mk III I'm refurbishing now. It's a fully automatic 70's table with three speeds. I don't recommend buying one though, they're not very good at all, I'm just doing the repair for fun more or less

>>73357663
I'm this guy >>73356198
I bought the Sanyo locally for a very fair price, it's not a table I'd recommend you hunt down. I haven't bothered investing in a better one yet because I've blown a lot of money on cassette decks lately.

Just be on the lookout on your local variant of craigslist or whatever for used tables in your price range and google them as you go. Look up reviews, opinions, and questions from people wondering about exactly the same as you do on hifi forums (happens uncannily often). At least that's what I did.

If your AV receiver has a phono preamp it will work. I haven't heard one myself so I can't really comment on it but I imagine it's not the part of the receiver they put the most money and engineering into. I use the phono stage on my Denon integrated stereo amp and I'm happy with that.

OP here
I've stumbled upon used TECHNICS SL1200 MK2 for 250 euro
He says on the website that he only used it for a month as a DJ and doesn't have the original box or a receipt
sounds fishy af but it's tempting lol

Also there is used TECHNICS SL D2 for 160 euro with TECHNICS EPS 207 - C cartridge

>TECHNICS SL1200 MK2 for 250 euro
Sounds like a decent price, at least I've never seen any that cheap where I live. If it works and is just fine I say go for it, there are hardly any better TTs out there. Even if it's not 100% they're not hard to work on if you're handy, and spare parts are available. The only "downside" to the SL1200 is that it's a manual, I find having auto-return on my living room TT to be a blessing. That's just a matter of convenience though and doesn't stop me from wanting one of those.

The SL-D2 or any other mid-range Technics is the typical turntable I'd recommend as a first turntable if you can find it cheap. I think 160€ is too much but it really comes down to what the market is like where you live. Keep in mind that the SL-D2 is nothing like the SL1200/SL1210 at all.

Seriously for your own and your records' sake, throw that piece of garbage out, or preferably, beat the salesman who sold you that abomination over the head with it.
Anything with an Ion logo is such a horrible piece of garbage I can't understand why that company still exists. They're literally just polluting the environment with the shit they're making

Then read my earlier posts and get out and get yourself a decent used turntable for probably less than you paid for that paperweight

>>73362637
Nice. It's a looker, for sure. The buttons and the loading mechanism really reminds me of some Marantz decks. Have you given it any service? Also exactly how does the loading mechanism work? I've never seen one of those IRL

I had a BOTL 90's Technics deck for a short time, a RS-D400. It was a plasticky piece of shit. I got it for free from a friend and ended up giving it away at a swap market for a copy of Rambo I on VHS and a multimeter lead lol
I love my Technics speakers though, listening to them as we speak.

As for vintage decks I have a working Tandberg TCD 310 Mk II and a Teac A-400 I bought as a repair project. They really look good but desu I prefer some of my modern decks. I'd kill for a three-head Tandberg though

I've given it all new capacitors, which really doesnt do much but I was recapping another piece I had so I just ordered them all at once.

The mechanism isnt as weird as it looks, you slide open the clear panel, push the tape up, head side out, then push down onto the bay. When you hit the eject button the tape pops up and slides down the front and stops at the lip where the slider door is, kinda cool I guess.
